I saw this the other day on the main highway between Bacong and Dumaguete, I don't really think these barriers are a good idea but somebody must as they are very popular here, why make a narrow road more narrow ? In this case you will see motorbikes blocking what is left of the footpath on one side and white van man hard up at the other side so now unless you can limbo under the barrier the only way past is to walk on the highway (not advisable) Does anyone think the people who did this are just stupid or agree with my theory that a lot of people here just don't care about anyone else and do not want to walk one step more than they have to and so will park anywhere !
Yes correct but in this case they not far enough into the road so no traffic was slowed down, the only thing they were doing because of idiotic selfish parking was making a hazard for pedestrian's. I know a lot of people don't like to walk anywhere but I walk a lot just to get some exercise that why I noticed this'
From what I saw on my trip to Dumaguete they move the barriers further out into the road when school starts and finishes so traffic is slowed down at these times when pupils are at risk. That being said it would make more sense if they placed the barriers parallel to the road when they aren't needed then the situation you describe above wouldn't happen
OH! Yes and they would Park parallel in Front or Behind them Good Idea But...... then they would have to wake someone up to move them at School break up Time. Having said that, I notice there are So many Different times for classes to end. No Easy answer to this I fear.
The only thing that would actually get people to slow down would be some speed bumps. What I hate is when they only put the barriers on one side of the road then the a-holes that have their lane blocked just move over to my lane and don't slow down one bit, forcing me off the road. Wish they would just invest in some of those plastic speed bumps (or maybe some old tank/heavy machinery tracks) that could be put out when it was needed.
Great point.... but I thought they have speed bumps in the roads there already , known as potholes and craters!
Lol yeah, but unfortunately those can be avoided without much trouble by most of the motorcycles. Hit some old tank tracks any faster than idle speeds and you will total a car or motorcycle. They loved to use those things on the military bases to control the speeders. Had a coworker who didn't know they were there and smacked them at 45mph with a Hilux.....vehicle had to be towed of base to give back to the Afghan we rented from and the coworker had to go to the hospital and get stitches on his forehead from where he smacked the windshield. That vehicle was never saw again....and that dumb*ss was never allowed to drive the vehicle again.
All I can say is; stop asking yourself those kinds of questions, just accept it and go on. The main reason for this way of thinking/not thinking is to preserve what sanity you have. This advice is like Sears, if you don't like it I will take it back.
As they say, be the change you want to see in the world. First, lift the end that is off the road. Move it away from the truck. Walk through the gap you have made. Final step, have a great day! You aren't going to change the way they do things and you must be ready to accept that you will have to handle some things yourself if you are going to be reasonably contented.
