Christmas tree lights can slow your wi-fi warns watchdog Ofcom as it releases an app that can check home broadband.

The app samples wireless signals to see if data is flowing uninterrupted from routers to phones and tablets.

The app is released alongside research which suggests wi-fi in six million homes and offices is not running as fast as it could do.

The app also provides tips to help people spot what might be slowing down their wi-fi speed.

Interference could come from other electronic devices such as baby monitors, microwaves or Christmas fairy lights, said Ofcom. Fairy lights could 'slow' wi-fi speeds warns Ofcom - BBC News

The number 1 cause of slow wifi speeds here in the Philippines is the ISP that is pushing internet to it.

Meh, in 1995 I was avoiding real human interactions by keeping my head buried in a Guitar World or Rolling Stones magazine, listening to music on my CD player or playing games on the Playstation. Nothing changes except the methods we use to ignore each other.

Is the app only applicable to iPhone? I don't see any ofcom app in google play store? Am I missing something?

Hmm.....it says it is incompatible with all my devices. :o o: Odd since I have a tablet (Android 4.2), a newer phone running the latest Android (Android 6.0), and my GF's LG phone (Android 5.0) along with several other phones/devices on my Google play account.

If it doesn't run on Android KitKat, Lollipop or Marshmallow it must be a very outdated or underdeveloped app for Android. (The developers could have only developed it for a single manufacturers smartphone.)

I've used other wi-fi analyzers before that worked alright.....but you should know a little about how wi-fi works before using them.
Wifi Analyzer - Android Apps on Google Play
    and
Wi-Fi Analytics Tool - Android Apps on Google Play (this one doesn't like Android 6.0 very much, lots of force closes. Not sure on other versions of Android.)
