We went to the Robinsons cinema the other day and a filipino guy and his wife/girlfriend came in sat down and immediately started talking quite loud, they were quite far from us but i could see he was holding his phone up in-front of them showing her things on it's screen, this went on for the entire movie, as i said they were quite far from us so only a minor distraction as i tried to work out why they wanted to pay 161 peso each to look at a phone and talk when it can be done for free outside.
It seemed to be acceptable behavior as none of the people sitting closer to them appeared to complain.
The only thing i can think of is that it was maybe somebody elses wife/girlfriend and the cinema was a convenient hiding place.
Does anyone have any thoughts on why else people would do this ? :wtf:

I gave up going to the movies here many, many moons ago. Either purchase the movie on CD/DVD or Download it and watch in the convenience of your own living room with no interruptions like you experienced at Robinson's Cinema. They are not going to change just because of us, so we must adapt. When in Rome etc... One can try the matinees during mid week when school is in session and there seems to be less distractions like you experienced if seeing the big screen is what you really want but be prepared for rude people and interruptions...

That's my two cents worth anyways. Hope that it helps.

Ah, the old, perhaps overworked, Serenity Prayer:

God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; courage to change the things I can; and wisdom to know the difference.

Methinks the wisdom therein might be an appropriate response to such protestations of poorly placed speed controls, what we would consider inconsiderate driving and parking practices, barking dogs, unruly theater audiences, poor sanitary conditions, etc., etc. Not long ago, there was a terrible uproar in this forum about a mean, nasty anti-foreigner rant in a local newspaper – calls for a boycott of the paper’s sponsors, letter writing campaigns to every travel agent in the world… Quite predictably, nothing happened, life went on for most of us as it usually does here. Perhaps food poisoning from a local restaurant is worth a word of warning, but even there we might want to be careful to jump in. Not long ago I got sick after eating a nearby restaurant owned by a friend. I thought about complaining to him, but then I thought about other places I may have visited, even things I had eaten at home, and decided it could have been any number of things, so I got well as I normally do after getting sick here. In the immortal words of Sir Paul McCartney:

Ob-la-di ob-la-da life goes on bra
La-la how the life goes on
Ob-la-di ob-la-da life goes on bra
La-la how the life goes on.

Thats the funny thing that even though they show a warning about movie piracy not one security guard or anyone that looked like a cinema employee came into the cinema during the entire movie.

Perhaps instead of forum, we could call it a bitchorum. Should be plenty of participants.
