ISIS unveil the Philippines as their new breeding ground for jihadis with their latest propaganda video featuring a secret Filipino jungle training camp
    • ISIS release new video showing jihadi training camp in the Philippines
    • Militant recruits shown going through a basic assault course in the jungle
    • It is the first time ISIS branded footage has emerged from the Philippines showing jihadi training activity

The Philippines has become the latest ISIS target for expansion after the jihadi group released its first propaganda video of a terror training camp in the Filipino jungle.

Several jihadi commanders are shown urging Filipinos to travel to Syria to join ISIS before revealing the group have already started their own terror camp in the Philippines.

The footage shows the 'soldiers of the Caliphate in the Philippines' working on their fitness and agility by completing a series of assault course drills

ISIS is spreading like cancer. Given that ISIS, ISIS affiliates, and Lone Wolves usually focus on foreigners & soft targets I reiterate my recommendation to (legally) own & possess firearms.

Foreigners cannot currently own & possess firearms here, but wives & girlfriends can.

I am hoping the law changes to allow foreigners who are permanent residents here to own & possess firearms -- that would be reasonable reciprocity because in the U.S., Filipinos who have Green Cards (i.e., who are permanent residents) are allowed to own & possess firearms.

Even if you get a gun license you still cannot get a Permit To Carry (PTC), so the gun is only going to save you at your house.
The PTC's were revoked some time ago and apparently the only way you can get one is if you can show some kind of document that your life is in danger, i presume that is a signed death threat from someone.
I don't really see the point of restrictions on the people who want to have and carry guns legally as i would like to bet all the recent shootings in Dumaguete were carried out with unlicensed guns.
As a footnote the Negros Chronicle this week shows PNP / Army officers sealing ? police / army guns with masking tape and signing them to deter them being fired as celebration during the holidays :wtf::wtf:

Hi Charly. You are correct that PTCs are hard to get. I recommend completing the laborious process of getting a license to own & possess firearms (LTOPF) and hope the PNP eventually makes it easier to get a PTC.

The below extract from Wikipedia is enlightening because it lists the professions that are presumed to be in imminent danger. I believe the Wikipedia quote is accurate.

Okay, so what about the rest of us??? The PNP needs to perform a threat assessment for our wives/girlfriends to apply for a PTC. Depending on who you are, the PNP may determine ISIS (or related terrorist groups) pose enough of a threat to you to justify a PTC for your wife/girlfriend -- under the belief that if you are targeted your wife/girlfriend may get caught in the crossfire so the threat to you could be extended to her.

For those of you who saw the recent Miss Universe Pageant I would like to call your attention to Miss Philippines' answer to the question concerning how she feels about an American base in the Philippines -- she responded that she has no problem with that. I like to view the question from the perspective of how Fillipino's might feel about having armed Americans in the Philippines -- I know, that's a stretch -- but I sense the government MAY be willing to support firearms in the hands of some foreigners.

Anyway, I requested my PNP friend see if he can have legislation proposed to allow, based on reciprocity, permanent residents here to apply for a LTOPF & PTC. It's a long shot, but as the threat from ISIS intensifies the government may want more firearms on the street that can be used to neutralize the threat.

Bottom Line: It is hard getting a PTC, but I believe it may be worth the effort to try.

    QUOTE FROM WIKIPEDIA.......

"The law specifies professionals who are considered to be in imminent danger due to the nature of their profession, occupation or business.

They include lawyers or members of the Philippine Bar, certified public accountants, accredited media practitioners, cashiers, bank tellers, priests, ministers, rabbis and imams, physicians, nurses, and engineers.

Businessmen who, by nature of their business or undertaking, are exposed to the high risk of being targets of criminal elements are also allowed to apply for PTC."

Governments never want this. It threatens their authority and scares the crap out of them. The only time they want more firearms is when it is people that directly take orders from them who are the getting the extra firepower.

Oh, good point, Wrye. Yeah, I see the current movement in the U.S. to restrict firearms while implementing a police & surveilance state. I guess there is no reason to believe it would be much different anywhere else over time. Sometimes I can't help living in my little fantasy world......

Yes, it always seems silly but they do that every year. None the less some officers still loose a few rounds every New Year.

MANILA, Philippines — Stray bullet incidents during the holidays have shot up to 61 as of Sunday morning with one death and 43 injuries.

The Philippine National Police said most of the cases were reported in Metro Manila, which had 18 cases, and in Western Visayas with 13.

Although i have lived here for quite some time this will be my first New Year spent here, after reading the article above it looks like the safest place on New Year would be under the bed with kevlar pyjamas on :arghh: :arghh:

Brilliant idea! This would of course apply only to Americans, not to Brits, Aussies, Danes, etc., poor souls whose governments have no 2nd Amendment provisions. AR 15’s should be made available to all American expats, including the afternoon drinkers at Why Not and various other liquid establishments. With PTC’s we could walk armed into such dangerous stores as Le Plaza and Tops & Bottoms. Carrying cases could easily be fitted to scooters. Might improve some of the tricycle driving as a side benefit. Think of all the innocent Americans who’ve been assassinated recently in Dumaguete – wouldn’t have happened had we been allowed to arm ourselves here in accordance with our US constitution.
