You ain't kidding. I am a day person who doesn't like to night drive here too much but I had to bring my SO to the pier at 11pm once and pick her up at 3am and the streets were virtually empty of any kind of vehicular traffic except when you got near the boulevard.

Traffic situation in Dumaguete will surely get worse, especially, vehicles are becoming more affordable. It is so easy to see that almost ALL of the people in the province come to Dumaguete for business, leisure or just plain idle pleasures because there is nothing to do nor to see in their towns. Observe the traffic both north and south highways during the late afternoon when those people are going back to their places.

Perhaps a toll paying gate may help make these people think about coming here and congest the narrow streets.

Most everything is here, especially downtown businesses.

    Manila City converting to E-Trikes
    February 9, 2016 Joel Dizon

The government of the City of Manila is moving to phase-out tricycles, pedicab, ‘kuliglig’, and other improvised trikes throughout the city.

The city government aims to replace the said modes of transportation into electric tricycles or e-trikes.

Conversion to e-trikes is expected to be completed in four months.

Chinatown, University Belt, Malate and Ermita will be the first areas to have the said ecofriendly tricycles.

The conversion project is under the city’s Employment Realization Assistance Program (ERAP) which aims to provide livelihood to citizens of Manila.

Dumaguete should take some lessons in MOVING forward .................

The problem with this will be maintaining those "e-bikes" and getting parts (batteries....which are very expensive).

Also, could you imagine how many more accidents there would be in Dumaguete if all the vehicles were electric powered (basically no sound)? People already don't pay attention to others on the road, take away the one thing (sound) that might give these types of people warning something is headed their way and you have a recipe or disaster. Of course it might not be a bad thing that more Darwin awards are handed out. If this is ever mandated I think it might not be a bad idea to start investing in some low-cost emergency care centers and also funeral homes (and perhaps buying up a lot of burial plots and renting them out).

Unfortunately that above mentality is pretty common in most government offices.

Sometimes they are no more than "script" readers without any capabilities of "thinking" outside or even inside the box :banghead::banghead::banghead:
