I'm so tired of lazy waitresses that don't deserve a job ,then some one comes along and makes excuses for them,sing for the girls?are you nuts ?.in America or England these girls would be fired in 5 minutes after they started their jobs,.im the one that comes out and wants to throw money around eating and drinking with friends ,.dont need the nasty attitude or words,that's why I left America,,what the girls don't understand is I'm a big tipper ,but they lose it from the start

I fully agree.. I have tried to'mention' to the waitresses,that I am the customer, and that their tip is not automatic/guaranteed. If I do not get what I am paying for,( usually a higher price because its a "foreigner' type resto) I do NOT leave a tip. Sometimes I will tell the waitress or if there is a manager, why.

I have never truly figured out the waitress tip system here. I have never been told a standard percentage as I am familiar with the US. Consequently my tip almost totally reflects my satisfaction with the service going from zero to 20%. Anyone has more information on this or other philosophies of tipping please post.

I have been told that Filipinos do not trip. That may be why here the service people do not work a little extra for tips. Any insight on the topic is welcome.

This could be started as separate thread, as it does not solely reflect on Happy Jacks.

Went there today after immigration and had the Union Jack Burger and fries. Excellent burger. My only complaint is that the burger should come with a half order of fries (raise the price a bit of needed). I really struggle to eat a burger and a full order of fries.

The girls were smiling and friendly and making sure my glass didn't go dry. I feel bad for the guys that aren't as gwapo as me. Service is great for those of us with all the looks. Mom always said, "life's not fair", guess she was right.

First I'd like to say my posts are true experiences that I write so the owners can read and make improvements where needed.Last night we as a party of 4 arrived at 7:30 pm.We sat at a table ,waitress came with menus ,when she took our order she only took orders four 2 of us and left,I had to retrieve her from the bar so the rest of us could continue our order.,There was no service at all,every time we needed drinks I had to get up and go to the bar and interrupt the girls playing amongst themselves to get drinks.I finally spoke up and asked"why don't you wait on us".? Their reply was " sorry sir we were talking" ?The staff is completely rude and they speak amongst themselves in visaya and we're trying to push us out because it was the one girls birthday she wanted to go home,and the other waitress told her "turn the lights out maybe the customers will leave"my wife heard them saying that in visaya.This is absolutely the rudest staff I've ever encountered in the 9 years I've been in the Philippines,.I visited here a week ago,I was the only customer and had to wait 10 minutes for a beer?The staff needs serious boot camp training or maybe just the boot,!The owner is a great guy ,I've met him,the place is clean remarkable furniture ,cold beer ,all the prices are fair,.the food was excellent ,all of us liked the food,,I want to visit again because I like the place ,but just don't think I can stand the rude waitresses and bad service,maybe I can bring a cooler with my own beer and just pay a corkage fee,that way I won't need service,I wanted to join the pool tournament this Saturday ,but maybe not,my American friend I took there last night ,it was his first time there ,he said he won't go back because of the waitresses,.,it's a great place ,I recommend it ,.just don't expect smiles or service,.you only get that from the owner

I have said this before in other threads, but I'm immune to bad service in the places I really like to go to. What's the better route? Stop eating or meeting with friends in one of the few places which I really like to go to? Or stop going there because I allow myself to get pissed off by a common issue? Sure, good service is part of a good experience. Sure, you may not be as wedded to a place as others are. Maybe there isn't enough there to hold your interest. But for me, I have been faced with this many times across Dumaguete and I have given in to making the most of what Dumaguete provides.

Another angle for me is that if all the place can offer is good service, then I'm not interested. I have been to resto's here where the owners have been anywhere from complete assholes to bat **** crazy and I enjoyed those places the most. Oh my, the stories I could tell. And none of those stories started with a smile and being called "sir."

Yet another angle is that many of these resto's are like family. Some of the waitresses in this town are friends I help out in many different ways (with no expectation of return or happy endings) because they are among the people I talk to the most. I don't get bad service in Happy Jack's and maybe one reason is because I know the waitresses.

A good approach here is to exchange names. Chat them up a bit to get to know them. When you asked them to come to your table, did you call them by name? Maybe find out what they were talking about. When you find there is a birthday, maybe even sing to them. The waitresses can either p*ss you off, or they can be a fun part of the experience of the resto-bar.

A little unfair I thought, based on the owners comments that he is dealing with the bad write up he had from a poster.

As with most things here, Your own mileage may vary " How can you knock it, if you ain't tried it"?

Many do, of course everywhere gets a hiccup or two, we are none of us perfect.
Take a visit and then make a Comment, Over critical critics sometimes can not see beyond the own Ego

I agree I have never had a problem with service there. The staff were always friendly and gave me good service. Was there again today to see the last game of the pool tournament and had same excellent service. Maybe it's the person's attitude. I am always smiling and polite and the staff responds in kind. But, I am not Gwapo, I am old overweight and bald. Go figure!
