are there any coffee shops/restaurants, even street venders, in duma that sell a decent whole bean coffee for take home? both robs and hyper seem to buy sellouts or the best deal they can get on a case, then it's gone until the next deal comes along.

    thanks...

I have been buying and grinding Bella Roma beans from hypermart/lee plaze for 3 years. Makes a nice medium to dark blended coffee...

Many times. And have never found whole bean coffee there EXCEPT one of the food places on the upper level that sells something they are calling Hawaiian coffee beans. The price looked too good to be true (less than 150 pesos for 250 grams and another 30 pesos to grind it for you) so I never gave it a try.

Artisans breakfast blend is a good tasting coffee and hyper seem to have it in stock most of the time for p345. They have a few others at different prices but reckon the breakfast blend has the best taste.

I gave up caffeine years ago, but if this thread attracts any de-cafers...... I found this instant to be the best. Smooth, full bodied and tastes great!

thanks for that Gerry. i quit buying coffee at hyper/plaza several years ago cuz it was always old stock but i must of missed the bella roma and i'll give it a try.

i just went thru 2 bags of artisan brand coffee and it was one of the worst coffees i've had to date, maybe i picked some old stock again. it was out of stock at both hyper and robs the last time i was in duma.

thanks brian, i've read that's it takes some experience to roast but that's something i'd really like to try. are raw beans sold in the duma area?

i once lived next to an older than dirt woman who had her own coffee bushes and she roasted in an aluminum pan over a 3-stone fire. the coffee was awful, could be cuz she left the roasted beans sit out on the counter until she roasted the next batch.

Ahhhh thats good to hear. I thought that there may be a run on it because it was recommended in this thread. Yep, its bad. I hope no one else buys it. And no, you did not get old stock. I know that because they cannot keep it in stock. Quite often I have to pick up a different brand because they are sold out everywhere on that one. Shame more people don't think its the worst coffee. I wonder how we can convince them :shifty:

Somewhat off topic but if you are out and about in Dumaguete city proper and want a cup of joe there is a coffee shop across the street from C&L Suites on Rizal street. Directly across from the shell station. It has a sign similar to Star Bucks and offers local organic coffee and also has limited menu of food stuff.
