Does he really think this will Happen Everywhere? He has to start thinking Outside the Box. Being Mayor of Davao is one thing, Being the Mr "P" is totally another to my Mind.
It could quite easily happen here.... IF he starts replacing PNP chiefs with those who will actually start enforcing things. Delegate it on down through the right people who will do their job. When the PNP shows up at your house or business for *disturbing the peace* and closes down your business for a week or a month or puts you in jail over the weekend then people will start doing what they are supposed to. But until that happens we get the same disorder. I think Duterte knows how to delegate and pick those at the higher positions to watch the lower positions along with holding them accountable. Its not like in Davao he is the one going around through the entire city doing these things. A few harsh examples and word of mouth will spread it real quick especially if we also get a 911 type of system that Davao has to call in to the police and emergencies. Loud crap going on past the hour make a simple call and the police come out just as in Davao.
Sure. He could have a SS (Student Squad) to keep them noisy karaoke kids quiet after 9pm and a Guest-Appo to stop them dang tourists from drinking after 1 am and I am sure he will have a "final solution" for them unescorted minors begging on the streets for rugby money after 10 pm.
Isn't he pushing for federalism? I suppose he will only push for federalism so long as all the provinces agree with his divine law of the land. God forbid a province elect their own politicians and make their own laws that suite their needs best. The only way his brand of "federalism" will work is if he throws democracy completely out the window and becomes the "supreme leader" of the Philippines. Luckily for everyone he is 70 years old....let's hope that he "goes away" before he has time to establish a hereditary dictatorship.
Hi to all, I believe that Duterte should / could / (hell) must be given a chance. He has plans, which have worked on a smaller scale. To see if they are successful on a larger scale, they must be given a chance to be implemented. I don't want a dictator, Philippines don't need another dictator. But they do NEED someone strong with at least the potential to improve all of Pinoy. They select Marcos (can't see past his own twisted outlook on history [who would vote for son-of-Hitler or for son-of-Kim II or son-of-Idi Armin]), Binay (can't see past his own corruption, can not even explain his wealth with prove), Poe (so inexperienced), the country will go back decades and loose so many achievements. So many are such powerful steps forward. Still leaves 3. Anyway we'll see.
The ball will Certainly be in Their Court on Polling Day. It really is up to themselves which way it Goes. JMHO here Folks
Yes Jack you are correct. Well we have to be careful not to even talk about politics here in public. Comments here are limited to expats (well should be). I certainly do not discuss politics even at home. After all it is not in my control. We can only hope it works in their favor.
His ideas are original? I think not. Look to history to find examples. That's exactly what they will get if he is elected....and that comes straight for the horse's mouth. The point isn't that I think Duterte is going to do the same stuff that Hitler did, it is to show why people elect crazy dictators. I really don't think the situation in the Philippines is as "desperate" as people (and the media) make it out to be. Yeah, there are things that are screwed up here, but it doesn't take a dictator to sort these problems out. All that needs to happen is for the people to actually demand politicians enforce some of the laws already on the books. The average Filipino continues to vote for same people year after year though....wtf to they think is going to happen? They have they government and society they deserve. Luckily DI is hosted in Singapore and owned by an LLC in the US. Your comments aren't being posted publicly anywhere in the Philippines, and therefore, break no laws. If anyone had a problem with posts made here and wanted to take actions against a poster would need to find a US law that was broken to get me to release any IP addresses.....and I'm quite sure the US doesn't give a crap about people talking about Philippine politics.
Agree. The Filipino's MUST do it for themselves. They have what they have because they are satisfied with what they have. It really is that simple. If they were NOT happy, they would vote for a different system. They haven't so they must be content with what they have!
