Also keeps your luggage clean, and most importantly, is another opportunity to get into your wallet. I have seen this 'service' in airports for "only $20/bag".
Maybe an incentive program would work? How about a 100k peso reward for anyone who snitches on a security/customs worker perpetrating scams? I'd be more than happy to shell out a couple $ as my part if the offenders could receive a life sentence.....in front of a firing squad. Just bill me.
I find it hard to believe the Xray equip is good enough or the operator good enough to identify something as small as a 22 round.
Bullets and other metal objects light up like Christmas lights on x-ray (even more so with backscatter technology). The more dense an object the darker it appears.....and bullets have a very distinct shape and size. There aren't many common items that look like them. Note that the color, brightness and contrast can all be adjusted by the x-ray operator.....which makes identifying objects much easier. I had gotten away with carrying lighters through security for years by making sure to throw it in the same compartment that I have loads of loose change in.....until my gf cleaned out all the change without telling me, and sure enough, I had 2 lighters confiscated. This is one reason why they make you remove your laptop and electronic devices from your back.
