Immigration Commissioner Ronaldo Geron has sacked a confidential agent for carrying out an unauthorized investigation of a British retiree. “Your contract as confidential agent is terminated effective immediately due to gross violation of office rules and (for) undertaking an unauthorized operation resulting (in) loss of trust and confidence,” Geron said in a letter to Emmanuel Ambrona, who had served as a confidential agent for several years. Geron said his decision followed a letter from one Trevor Fawcett, a British national living in the Philippines on a special resident retiree’s visa. The head of the immigration field office in Cebu for allegedly usurping the functions of the BI chief and the Department of Justice (DoJ). In a press conference, Geron also said that aside from relieving Julius Jamorabon of his duties as acting alien control officer of the BI-Cebu district office, charges of grave misconduct and usurpation of authority will be filed against the latter before the Office of the Ombudsman. Jamorabon was recalled to the main office in Manila and reassigned to the office of the BI commissioner which virtually placed him on “floating” status. Geron disclosed that Jamorabon was relieved when he learned during his Cebu visit that the BI official was conducting operations against aliens in his turf without authority or permission from the BI commissioner. He said that Jamorabon wrote a letter to China and Japan consulates in Cebu informing them of his plan to conduct house-to-house verification of the immigration status of aliens doing business or working in his area of jurisdiction. When asked to explain, Jamorabon reasoned that he acted in good faith and that his motive was only to implement immigration laws and make sure that such laws are not violated by aliens in his area. That's where he screwed up. Wonder what made him think that was a good idea. I think he actually thought he was working within his job description.....either that our he was being extremely arrogant.
Maybe this new bi cheif is having a good clear out! The head of the Cebu office and this so called Comfodential agent. Also seem strange the the Brit in the first post was on and ssrv retirement visa,I always thought this visa was nowt to do with the bi!
I believe the PRA handles the paperwork and requirements but the visa needs to be issued/approved by immigration.
They ARE totally separate agencies. Once you get a SRRV you no longer have anything to do with BI except a cursory glance at the airport when coming and going. At least tha's how it's supposed to work. I suspect this Emmanuel Ambrona individual was looking for some easy and got caught with his hand in the proverbial cookie jar.
