Well I've planned for a long time to move to Dumaguete . Have a beautiful home awaiting me and the family . Now I see the kidnapping business is in full swing again . Such a shame a beautiful country the Philippines is to have such a shameful government . A government that takes it's orders from Abu Sayuf and the NPA . So my dream of moving to the Philippines is on hold now . What's sad is that with all of the beautiful resorts the Philippines has , very few are safe . I've been to Pearl Farms Resort . Beautiful place . I would only imagine business is not doing well there right now . What the real shame of it all is , the Philippine government should have taken care of this problem a long time ago . Abu Sayuf and the NPA should be nothing more than figments of the Philippines history . If the pussie Philippine government doesn't put an end to Abu Sayuf and the NPA I have a feeling a lot of money will be leaving the Philippines along with many jobs . I feel bad for the Canadians and Norwegian . I hope for their safe return but won't hold my breath if left in the hands of the Philippine government to rescue them . Shame on the Philippine government. Shame on you , yes you Manny Pacquiao . Your family is safe aren't they Manny ? Why don't you take charge and lead the way in eliminating these useless rodents called Abu Sayuf and the NPA . All of them and their families should die . Like I said , I won't hold my breath though .

Maybe they should ask the US for some help since we truly enjoy fighting in countries that dislike us...but we dont discriminate! One good unit dropped into Mindanao should get things headed in the right direction again! Hell if i could still see past 50 meters I would join the hunt. I heard also way back when that there were anti rebels up in the mountains of our beautiful Negros. Now the people have grown to accept the neighbors who have ties to NPA in fear of being executed for standing up for right. Ive spoke to many who have been eye witness to the horrors and still people just go on letting a few run the many. Very sad and a never ending nightmare.

You will be a lot safer in Dumaguete than you tend to think, I honestly can't Remember the last Kidnap we had here, if at all.
Head Down, Non Obtrusive and not showing off wealth. Keywords for a safer future in my mind.

Who you think is pushing to play nice with the Muslim bad guys with the UN? The US government has been using its muscle now to stop using what it deems *harsh* and *inhumane* actions to get rid of the trash. The US has been doing this around the world for a number of years now and the same with our own military by tieing the hands of those wanting to actually end the nonsense so we can't use severe deadly force. Again and again the Philippine Army is pushed into soldier ground conflicts instead of burning them out, bombing them out, or major mortar volleys on their homes. The US political channels keep whining on *the women and children* and to much of the media today is ran by liberal pro hate and pro criminal agenda's especially in the US.

I would respectfully disagree with all of your post but especially this part. The vast majority of resorts are quite safe. Only a handful of resorts, and only those in certain locations, would I consider unsafe. I've stayed at various resorts throughout the Philippines and I've rode a motorcycle (alone) from Dumaguete to Olongapo back and forth several time, many times taking very remote and out of the way detours and routes. Not once at any of these resorts or on any of my rides have I ever ran across any problems. The only place I have ever had a problem was in the larger cities late at night when I was by myself out looking for bars (and women). And the only problem I had then was after I had a bit too much to drink and I told the beggars, street prostitutes/ladyboys or walk alongs (those annoying guys that follow you around to bars trying to get free drinks/money from you) what I really thought about them.

There are places I would not go in this country where I would consider your assessment valid. For me, I will not travel, vacation or ride within the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) or any of the provinces that border it. I would also not travel to the Muslim areas in southern Palawan. I simply will not go to any area that has a large population of Muslims.....unless I'm getting paid a lot of money to do it and I have military protection. Luckily Muslims make up only 5% of the population in the Philippines and they are mostly concentrated in certain areas. It's easy to avoid them. As for the NPA.....meh. Their problem is with the government, not expats. I've ran into a group of them one time and they had absolutely no interest in me whatsoever. (I have also known one or two individuals that were allegedly members. Nice enough people.....completely clueless about the realities of communism and human nature (not that I was about to get into a political debate with them on the subject)....but nice enough.

It would be interesting to see someone compare the chances of being shot and killed in the USA vs the chances of being kidnapped in Philippines. I put it out there because I read more news articles about shootings/killings in the US than kidnappings in the Phils so I wonder which place is really safer?

Depends where you live in the US and the Philippines. Being in certain areas, surrounded by certain......let's say "demographics", increases your chances of being a victim greatly. Living in Jolo or East St. Louis wouldn't be a great idea for most people and your chances of being a victim in a violent crime would be much greater than living in, let's say, Valencia or Waco.

As has been said, it matters a lot where you live in the US. If a woman is being raped in Waco she screams rape and Bubba comes with his shotgun and put a stop to it. In New York City they tell women to scream Fire! Because if she screams Rape, nobody will want to get involved.
