We live about 2km further up the hill from Valencia. I put split ac's in the master bed and sala, but in 3 years they've only been turned on once a month to lubricate the compressors. We find fans are sufficient up here.
Jack i think this is just the start of a long hot dry SMELLY spell, has anyone else noticed the bad smell in and around the city , a big rain to flush the gutters would help.
we live at 400m on a ridge between Talinas and the highway. been here almost 5 years and only turned on a fan a couple of times. there's almost always a nice breeze, tho sometimes it can chilling and i have to put on long pants and a long sleeved shirt. never saw the neighbor guys wearing long pants.
I guess it's on an individual basis as to your heat tolerance. I have lived in the PI a long time and since coming to Duma back in June of last year (2015) from Luzon I have only ever had the aircon turned on a couple of times to make sure it still works. Have not needed it yet but might change here now with summer coming. Note: where I lived in Luzon was noticeably warmer than Dumaguete by approx 2-3 degrees Celsius or about 8-10 degrees Fahrenheit on average. Plus here in Duma we get a nice breeze off the ocean. That's my personal experience anyway. If you are coming from a cooler climate like most of North America or Europe you will probably need to use aircon at least 6-7 months out of the year especially when warmer summer weather gets here from late February until around October or November after typhoon season before it starts to cool off again. Usually the weather here in Philippines is most pleasant for foreigners and tourists from middle to late November until middle of January or early February. Those are also the peak tourist seasons.
I come over to the Ph every Christmas from the UK and I feel the heat even in December and January. God knows what I'd be like in Summer.
