Healthcare VA Certified Doctors in Dumaguete

probably because you need to request your medical records be transferred here to VARO Manila. That can be done by a service officer for American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars etc... You can contact VARO Manila by phone or email and request the same. Currently you are listed as being serviced by Anchorage and/or St. louis and they will physically have your medical records and have an officer assigned as your case officer. Even though you live here. The VA will not change your status for you,. You must request it as far as I know.

 

Yup, I understand. Especially with my not having decided when I will be where, I am operating under the theory as long as I can access what I need, don't move things around. Every move or change of location of documents or bank accounts is an opportunity for something to get screwed up - or find a surprise waiting like some guys had with social security and medicare premiums.

Once enrolled in the system, even as a transient, you are in and can access the VA in that state (or the Phils). Which is all I am looking for anyway.

 

When I was traveling in the US I stopped in to use the VA twice, once in Arizona, once in Alaska. In Arizona I went to the Phoenix VA, sat with eligibility for 10 minutes and was in the system and assigned a primary care team. I am now always able to access the VA in Arizona as I am in their system. In Alaska I went to the VA clinic in Fairbanks, they FAXed (yes I said FAX) my eligibility paperwork to Anchorage so approval took a day. I am now also able to access any VA in Alaska. I did not have my records moved in either case. I assume (haha, yes I know) that meeting eligibility here is the same, submit a request, they check to see I am already verified and add me to the local Phils VA.

There doesn't seem to be a direct answer as to what to do. Everything so far is should, could, and sorta maybe. If I can request by MyHealthVet how? If not, is there a way to be verified by eligibility without first going to Manila? Can I make one appointment and do eligibility and primary care in the same trip?

I asked these questions of the DAV via email on March 9th, got a response on the 13th saying I can get my meds after a primary care appointment. Gave me a VA phone number but said to call from a landline or he could help but better if I did on my own. He also asked if I was a member of any service organization (odd since my original email mentioned my current service officer is in DAV regional St Louis office). I answered yes, lifetime member of VFW, American Legion, and DAV on the 13th also, still waiting for a reply.

 

Yes, I know it is confusing and I am not the expert but can only express what I know from personal experience. VARO Manila is a special case as it is the only VA outside the USA and it plays by it's own specific rules which were made for the Philippines and are differeent than USA VA. They do allow walk-ins on a case by case basis but going to VA OPC does not guarantee you will be seen by a Doctor or anyone just that they will try to fit you in if time permits. All appointments are made months in advance and if you are not rated at even zero percent service connected they will not even let you inside or entertain you. I suggest you email Vick Randall. I will PM you all the details and you can address any questions to her. She is the Clinic manager and the only American I have ever seen there at VA OPC who wasn't a patient.

 

Think this is confusing this is approved / certified doctors from TRICARE NOT VA APPROVED. These two are different. You would hope they would be linked. But first you hve to get VA approval before you go. And theres the rub.

OK.

So there is no VA Hospital, nor are there any VA Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs) in the Philippines - except for the one in Manila.

So for the US Vets in the know, where do you Vets go in Duma for your health care?

Is there a specific list of VA approved Doctors, clinics, hospitals a Vet has pre-authoried access to in the N.O. area?

Or do you not have or use the VA health care system as there is nothing VA pre-approved in the N.O. area?

Is the list Wrye83 as posted in an above reply ONLY a list of TRICARE approved Doctors and hospitals?

Well guys this info is all good to hear. I have been in southern Leyte for the past two years living here,sold everything as my wife wanted to move back home. I have a five year visa for now, guess I'll be getting a permenant on soon. Thanks for all the info, retired
