First you need to do a free upgrade to windows 8.1 then you get a free upgrade to windows 10. As far as I know there is no direct upgrade from Vista to Win10 as Vista is so old and incompatible for a direct upgrade to Win10.

See: Upgrade to Windows 8.1 from Windows Vista or Windows XP - Windows Help

and DailyTech - Windows XP, Vista Users Can Get Free Windows 10 Upgrade Thanks to Loophole

    Hope this helps.

Note: your hardware must also be compatible. If not would probably be better to wait until you need to upgrade your hardware and just buy a new computer sometime in the future that already has Win10 Installed.

There was a free upgrade to W10 from Vista but it ended in September or October of last year. I just missed it myself with a computer I was playing with. There was also a trick whereby, you could download the free preview for W10, totally disconnect your computer from the internet, disable windows update, go into your bios and reset the time and date to predate the expiration of the free preview. Install the preview. Connect to the internet and the operating system will validate because your system identifies that the preview was installed prior to the expiration. If you had not reset your bios, you wouldn't have been able to install the preview in the first place. Enable windows update . Allow it to update. You would then have the latest windows 10. I DO NOT KNOW IF THIS WINDOW IS STILL OPEN.

Some unscrupulous person might say, I will just use a pirated copy because I doubt Microsoft is going to come to the Philippines to have someone arrested but copyright infringement is wrong.

The above said, if your computer came with an operating system and your disc became lost or was damaged, you have the right to reinstall that same operating system, no matter how you get your hands on it. That being the case, you can go to getintopc.com and get the image of your operating system by downloading it to a computer. I have checked them and found no bugs in any I have downloaded. Once you have the image you then go to Pendrive Linux Universal USB Installer site and you can load the image you downloaded to a flashdrive in bootable form. To recover a computer power it on, go into the bios and select to boot from USB. It will then boot and install your operating system. You can use your own product sticker with the Cert of Authenticity to validate the operating system so it will update and not show up as a pirated operating system. While you are at it, you might be able to go to a 64 bit system and add some more ram, if your motherboard will permit, instead of an original 32 bit system installation. Microsoft doesn't care whether your system is 32 or 64 bit as long as it is the same Home, home premium, business or pro flavor as your original installation.

Someone might use this to install a pirate copy of an operating system but that would be illegal and wrong. I only use it to replace operating systems on computers with defective hard drives and to upgrade 32 bit systems to 64 bit of the same type.

If you need an operating system, like say you had the hated Vista, I would recommend Ubuntu if it is just your web surfing and light task computer and you don't absolutely need windows for anything.

I installed w10 to a an old 80GB hard drive I had laying around, so to go back to windows 7 I just shut down the computers and unplugged the HD with windows 10 on it and plugged in the windows 7 hard drive. I was glad I did this because w 10 made my computers run slowly, mostly because there are too many services running that you really don't need for most things. My windows 7 with all services turned on is faster than windows 10 on my daily driver computer. My stripped down windows 7 with minimal services turned on will run rings around windows 10 for web surfing and games and it was mid of the line 9 years ago. W 10 ain't bad but I won't switch back to it until I feel the need to which I can always do. That was the point of installing windows 10 on my computers before rolling them back to windows 7 because now they are registered as windows 10 mother boards. I suppose I should put w 10 on my laptop, I just wasn't in any hurry because I haven't been using it because I am surrounded by more powerful desktops.

After weeks of using Window 10, I finally had to admit that I had made a mistake, and should have stuck with Windows 7. As I had passed the time given for reverting back to Windows 7, my only option was to pay and get it reinstalled in town. I received an update for my Advance System Care 9, which also included an application to revert back to Windows 7. I thought what the hell, as if it doesn't work I'm taking it to town anyway. Ten minutes later I have Windows 7 back. Will most probably find that half my apps won't work now, but what the heck.

That is not actually true. If you want to rollback you still can. Just google this and download it. This will allow you to do a rollback. "Windows 10 Rollback Utility.iso" [permits you to return to Windows 7 or 8.1 from Windows 10 as well as preventing automated updates] See this link: http://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/windows_10_rollback_utility.html Note: this link also has a video tutorial to show you how to do it from YouTube.

I hope this helps and saves you a couple of shekels too! I have nothing to do with this site but I have used them for years as I find them very trustworthy and usefull.
