The said aliens are subjects of summary deportation orders issued by the BI board of commissioners which found them liable for committing various offenses.

Among the wanted aliens are those overstaying and undocumented and those who entered the country via the backdoor or without valid entry visas.
The list also include aliens caught using spurious immigration documents and those who gainfully worked here without the required working visa.

It was learned that Geron already signed the warrants of deportation that would be served against the aliens by BI intelligence operatives in effecting their arrest.

They will subsequently be deported and banned from re-entering the Philippines for being undesirable aliens.

As for aliens who are wanted for criminal offenses, they will have to first serve their prison sentences here before they could be deported.

In compliance with Geron’s directive, BI intelligence chief Rommel de Leon dispatched several teams of immigration agents to hunt the wanted foreigners in places where they are believed to be hiding.

Geron was said to have warned the BI field operatives against harassing or extorting money from the aliens in return for not arresting them.

I can't post all the jokes here. You guys give this one a shot. It's an easy one.

We're being very loose with our definition of "gainfully working" here. In a country where everyone who is able flees the country to work, you have to be in a jacked up situation to look at improving your prospects by coming to the Philippines. In fact, if someone is actually able to do something which most would consider "gainful" here, the Philippines should probably just let that person keep going. Like at a construction site, everyone else can just sit and observe.

Personally, I'm skeptical. I think a working visa is starting off on the wrong foot. Instead, you need a mountain of Pesos.

Next press release: hunt was called off because nobody bothered showing up. Don't worry, foreigners. You're all safe this time.

Foreigner could't get the waiter to take his order for various reasons. Worker wouldn't show up at work due to various problems. Girlfriend needs you to send money due to various medical emergencies.

Various is a serious problem here.

I could see how a bust like this would go down. You raid the place. Two people are sleeping. One person is tapping away on a cell phone. One person is sweeping the floor.

Let's bust the a$$hole who is working. Must be an illegal foreigner.

Ohh crap, I'm doomed. I knew I shouldn't have flipped that burger at my restaurant when the worker was busy with fries...

I'm wondering though.... is there a legal way to challenge the *gainful employment* claim? As I would think if the work can be proven as not gainful the foreigner should be getting a LOT of sympathy here.

On another note I am wondering on the employed thing. I knew a foreigner who owned a small conveinence store (think it was in Bacolod) and ran the place himself. The business I think was in his wife or gf's name who worked in Cebu. I wonder if guys like him would be considered an illegal worker because obviously him saving money running the place himself as he had nothing else to do is denying some poor Filipino that minimum wage :p

I'm sure these people are tripping a number of flags aside from working without a visa. Probably someone was specifically gunning for them for some reason and X item was good enough grounds to give them the boot.

Look at Zanzibar as an example. X event happened, which made the city look bad. They found Zanzibar to be violating X law. Zanzibar got shut down.

I'm sure we could all go on and on with examples. And in most cases somebody got painted as a target for some reason.

Agree with this. I think most people that get deported by immigration have p*ssed off the wrong local. I also believe it has to be a connected local, as I've heard of many expats trying to get another expat deported but never once heard of them succeeding at it. If you are stealing business from a connected local businessperson you had better knock it off. There are exceptions to this but I believe that the expats that get away with it have quite deep pockets.

This new bi cheif does seem to be cracking the whip though, there were a couple of threads on here a while back about him also.
It makes you wonder if someone who has been here a while who just stops renewing their visa, does it show up and do they actually notice stuff like this? You would think it would be simple to trace the ones with no visa from where they last renewed!

Just shooting from the hip again.

600 people is just a drop in the bucket. I'm sure there are hundreds of thousands of illegals here. Dumaguete doesn't even have the resources to take care of what would be the most basic services back home, let alone do a major ramp-up to break an existing service into overdrive. Even the U.S. with all its gov cash doesn't just instantly teleport immigrants out of the country.

Just a crazy theory, but deportation might offer a relatively fast-track option for dealing with annoying people in a country where the court system moves at a snails pace. Imagine that you become a target and somehow information gets out that you are doing something which could get you deported. Go ahead and tie a big bow on that gift which you just gave to your enemy.

Otherwise I'm guessing that illegals here just aren't much of a problem for the people in power. They have better things to worry about. More pressing things to use those precious resources on. Illegals have always been a thing and always will be. Just stay out of the way.

Bureau of Immigration Orders Hunt for 600 Illegal Foreign Nationals – www.philippineslifestyle.com

MANILA, Philippines – The Bureau of Immigration has launched a massive manhunt for more than 600 foreigners who were ordered deported by the agency for violating Philippine immigration laws.

BI Commissioner Ronaldo Geron has ordered the bureau to find the foreigners who are still at large and hiding in various places throughout the Philippines.

When found, the illegal aliens will be subject to a summery deportation order. That order comes at the heels of finding those in the manhunt who are liable for committing various offenses while living in the country.

Of the offenses noted by the BI, the wanted aliens will be charged with overstaying and non-documentation for those who entered the Philippines via the backdoor or without a valid entry visa.

The long list also includes those caught using fake immigration documents and those who gainfully worked here without the required working visas.

Geron also noted that he has signed the warrants of deportation when the illegal aliens are served – essentially deporting them and banning them from re-entering the country.

Most of those caught in the roundup will be labeled as an “undesirable alien.”

Geron also said that anyone wanted for criminal offenses will have to first serve their prison sentences in the country before being deported under the same guise.

As of this publishing, the Bureau of Immigration has dispatched several teams of agents throughout the country to hunt down the wanted foreigners – many Geron said are in hiding.

Geron warned his men against harassing or extorting money from the foreigners in exchange for not arresting them.

I know a guy who overstayed for many years (think well over 4 years without an exit or a visa extension). He planned to go on a trip with his gal and another friend foreigner outside the country. I was sure he wouldn't be let out let alone allowed back in unless he settled his lack of visa stamps with late fee's which would have totaled hundreds of thousands of peso's and the guy had very little money.

They actually let him out w/o much of an issue besides questioning and back in as well. They bought into his disabled talk because he has trouble walking. He also has a bit of a slurred speak and the way he walks people who don't know him would think he's mentally disabled. From what I heard from the friend and the GF is that they just waived it off as no big deal because they thought he was mentally handicapped. (the guy is sharp though and not mentally disabled at all though, just physical issues).
