This fellow is lucky he lives in Philippines. Other countries would just expropriate any building or property that is in the way of progress and not give a sh*t how many years the family had owned the land, but at least other countries would pay some compensation.

Some countries own their people so of course whatever the people own belongs to the government also. If the Philippines were N. Korea, China, Russia we wouldn't be having this discussion, right? Mostly because I don't think any of us would want to live there long enough (or at all) to care.

The bottom line here is that this tree thing will just be one more excuse to move the airport to Bacong. Thats good news for whoever owns the land in Bacong that will become the new airport but it sucks for me as it means I have to drive through Dumaguete traffic to get to the airport when the reason I chose to live in Sibulan was the closeness of the airport and ferry terminal. Still, its not that big a problem. I have moved before and will undoubtedly move again

I wonder if they guy will cut his tree after the airport has moved.

Don't believe it. Reverse thrust is not that effective, and brakes would have been used well before 80 knots. (23,000 hours and former A320 captain.)

When 2 veteran, first world, pilots cannot agree on how to land a plane, it sure makes me wonder how safe we really are in the hands of the filipino pilots landing on the Dumaguete runway. [IMG]

I'm going with this guy and he gets bonus points for saying "knots" instead of "mph" and not using the term "air retarders'.
