Another Dumaguete expat was buried this morning.Scottish bob died at drill shack Sunday nite.live here 20yrs. i do not have any more details R.I.P. Bob
If anyone knows bobs full name please could you pm me so I can inform the embassy, his wife also may be entitled to a widows pack from the embassy.
Speaking from experience, I would only inform his wife/gf to notify the embassy. I had a well-intended friend notify the U.S. embassy of my husband's death the day he died (without informing me), before I was ready to notify them (sometimes the banks gets wind of it and will freeze assets/bank accts). I had to act quick to get much-needed cash out of an account for bills/burial expenses, before it was frozen.
Dear DumagueteInfo. Last will and testimony. In case someone finds me dead, I don't care what you do. Dump me in the ocean. Tell the wife/gf to save the money. No expenses. **** it. I'm dead.
I'm with TheDude on this one. Screw notifying the embassy. That is up to the GF/Wife. I'd rather a funeral pyre built for me out back and never say a word to the embassy. Unless someone has some major ties back home such as property and what not then that is a different story but still comes down to the GF/Wife. I'm sure as heck not going to be happy from beyond the grave is the government or my bank freezes my assets from my partner because they are hoping to keep them for themselves.
The other day, people were Saying things about the US Embassy warden, This Poster is a UK Embassy Warden and is doing the job asked of him. Damned if they Do and damned if they don't do the job. Lets Remember, Late reported deaths will cause problems, We Die on the date of the Death Certificate not when it Suits us.
Doing thing right is not that difficult. I knew Bob casually, had the odd beer with him. Bob has two or three school aged kids plus his widow. Hopefully there is some sort of "survivors package" for them. I'm guessing there is. There is burial assistance etc. as I've been told. Sooner or later the UK government will want their proof of life (every year or so) and then sh*t will hit the fan. It's illegal to withdraw money from a dead persons account. It's possible Hilda does not have access to Bobs accounts. Following the law is pretty simple. Why some people have such an aversion to this mystifies me. Here in the PI a lot of laws are ignored and I kind of like that but they day some agency decides to apply all those laws to you will be one sorry day. They took Bobs body up the mountain to where Hildas family lives. He will be buried there.
I think the warden wanted to contact bob,s wife and in my mind this was correct thing to do, she should be the one to decide who to tell and when. i also know of a smart ars aussie that rang centerlink in Australia they in turn stopped a payment in transit he also had his bank account closed 8 hours after his death and left her with out money he had a will leaving her everything . That 3 years ago and the bank still have his money locked up
Curious? Was that an Aussi bank or a PI Bank holding the money? I met with my bank manager here and he said if I die the bank will hold my money until I a cleared of debit in Canada. My wife and I explained to him that my estate is absolutely none of his or the banks business. I have a will here and they will follow whatever directive they get from an RTC (regional trial court) here in the PI. I discussed this with my lawyer and he agrees and added banks can try and play fast and loose but don't get to far with that when you know your rights.
