:bag: Some one please help me out here, I read this morning that the incoming President is unlikely to give his VP a Cabinet Position. So just what is the Role of the VP here, Are they really needed, is the man worried about something? :hmmm:

If Poe had got in as president I doubt robredo would have got a cabinet position either!
It is a bit confusing with this issue but who would have the opposition in their cabinet!

I find it nonsense that they can have a President from one side win and a VP from the other side win.... also very hilarious. Without a Congressionaly mandated job for the VP it would be like an extended vacation or simply sh*t list chores assigned by the President.

In any other country, there is usually a clear distinction between what each party stands for. In England and the USA the Conservative & Republican Parties are for the capitalist system, where private enterprise creates jobs and wealth, whereas the Labour & Democrat Parties are for government control, trade unions and welfare dependency. Can anyone tell me what the positions are of any of the parties here. I am at a total loss and think there is no distinction and that democracy in the Philippines is non existent. Politicians change sides, as and when it suits and the electorate are ignorant. As for the VP, I don't see her being given an significant cabinet position, but maybe given a token position to satisfy the female electorate. I expect Duterte to push for a Federal System of Government, to devolve power and wealth to the regions, with the end of the pork barrel, hopefully.

From what I've learnt until now parties here do not have much, if anything at all, in common with the political parties we know from the US or Western Europe. They are more like loose, short term cooperations, and polticians appear to decide at will just before election season starts which party to run for. And this is a good fit, because most politicians are busy caring for themselves and their clans anyways - nobody has much time for political agendas or actually moving the country forwards.

When I first heard that they'll not only elect their president but also the VP directly I thought it was a joke - who wants to have a government where the President and VP try and pull into opposite directions? Surely the VP won't have much say anyways but then again they could also skip voting people into that position and have it filled with somebody the elected president picks.

Until I see something bad come from it, I couldn't care less. I would rather not manufacture problems. As a foreigner, it's none of my business anyway.

Oh I don't think anyone here is manufacturing problems that will be self evident in due course but we often say that people here should be more aware of their own Politics and many are now asking Questions. Lets hope that as Foreigners we don't get get caught up in it all because it just may well become our problem. whether we like it or not.
