Firm pushes gasification to solve garbage problem DAILY STAR: Negros Oriental Enough Rubbish maybe but getting to the Plant is going to be another Story.
A great idea and plan but I'm sure there would be some opposition somewhere along the line,a foreign company making money hmmmmm! We have a garbage collection in bacong which is dumped locally into old sand and gravel pits,we are not charged for this service like the city and I know dauin, bacong have a brand new compactor garbage truck parked outside the municiple but it cannot be used until the road is fixed. We pay the guys every week to take our garbage as I know a few other foreigners do but I'm sure if they brought a small charge in the locals would just go back to burning again.
I think the idea has merit and hopefully it can happen. There were a couple places we stayed where there was garbage pick-up; no clue where it went and there was no requirement for sorting. Where we live now there is no such service; cans, bottles and some plastics are bagged up and are given to someone to recycle. The paper and other plastics we end up burning. Not very environmentally friendly but just accepted it as "it is what it is" plus as a kid it was common to burn your garbage. I need to ask the wife more about this as I am curious how things work where we are, though I assume I will get the "this is how we do it" answer. Shawn
Are they actually doing anything to try and put this out still or have they given up now? Breathing that stink every day is seriously detrimental to health. We had a small dumpsite which caught fire a few months back,it go so bad at night you couldn't go outside so we got hold of the bgy captain and she got the mayor to send the fire service up there but after a few days it was back so they took the front loader up there and covered it with a few hundred tons of sand and it seems to have worked now.
