Has anyone else noticed a citywide chicken shortage, the other day not one piece to be had in either Robinsons or Hyper ! Whats going on, is it the muslims end of ramadan feast ? Just had a money making idea, i am going to start a chicken farm first thing tomorrow afternoon
In the last month or so I've been told on 3 separate occasions that there was no chicken at the market in Valencia. I thought I was being told some porky pies until I read this.
Chicken farming is a good business if you don't mind the stink and have somewhere to put all the excrement. Last I checked, there were contracts available with chicken buyers where they will set you up in business and buy all you can produce. The only risk is that you can keep them alive, disease free, and not stolen.
How about the alternatives? Is there sufficient pork and beef? I had to get used to eating chicken, had always considered them a leafy green vegetable suitable for a side dish. Usually when I noticed a chicken shortage it was on my plate at Chowking! I usually had to order a one piece meal to go with my chicken laureat. Last year I had noticed higher prices for chicken elsewhere Bicol region as I recall where the posted prices were equal to slightly more than pork chop. Maybe someone in southern Negros has taken to shipping their produce somewhere else, or someone cornered a large share of the market supply and decided to ship it somewhere else transferring the shortage to the Duma area. Sort of a double pounding, lack of chicken will probably place pressure on the price of pork and they will both become more expensive, fish too no doubt. When there is enough money to be made, someone will step in to supply the demand. The price of chicks has probably already gone up from people anticipating meeting that future demand
San Miguel Foods Inc.’s Poultry Contract Growers Business Opportunity Too late for me to edit my post so I am replying to my own post to show a link in case there is someone out there who wanted to be a chicken farmer.
I doubt this would create a diversion of supply due to higher prices elsewhere. Prices could rise here as well. I don't pay attention to prices because I don't cook at home. But the price of feed went up during the drought. Has anyone tried Silliman Farms for chicken?
HI been there done that, for a start San Miguel will pay you peanuts for all your hard work and heart break like most big company,s the little man is there to be used to the fullest. Its early this and worse than usual but its called NASTY AUGUST thousands of chickens of New Castle sickness i lost my entire flock over night a few years back . Many people have there own idea,s as to what causes it, water, wet season , god, ect In the 11 years i have been here i have not seen it so bad maybe its a sign of things to come.
