My experience with these bird is that they are great watch dogs at night. They make a noise that scares most people, and you can not see them perched in the trees. Since I am moving to a house and yard with large trees where the Guinea fowl ca nperch at night it will be great a scaring the heck out of anyone. I will put up a sign saying to be quiet so you do not wake the "Wakwaks" and I think all the potential trespassers who can read will stay away.

Does anyone know where I can get Guinea hens or Guinea fowl? I have seen them but do not remember the exact location.

Second question: Has anyone had experience with them here?

Yes, that is the case. I think their wings can be clipped to reduce their ability to fly. In my first house in the states, my neighbor had some. They roosted in the tall Eucalyptus trees every night and did not seem to roam around the neighborhood. It may be that they will need to have their wings clipped. The Mango trees are not as tall as Eucalyptus trees, so they will not have to fly as far for perching at night. . If they fly around the neighborhood the whole neighborhood may be infested with "WakWaks" and the kids will not be able to go out an night. :o o:

Sounds like not clipping the wings might be a good choice then.

Dave...were you able to find any guinea fowl? I saw then in a market here in Turkmenistan last week and they got me curious so I researched them a bit. Seems like they are great for controlling bugs without destroying garden plants like chickens can. A forum search led to your post.

    Thanks,

    Shawn

Shawn, I moved before I found them. I was going to use them as "watch dogs" primarily. They will roast in trees, and "screech" crazy when anyone comes around at night. If I can can convince the neighbors they are Wak Waks, I would be save. LOL
