The new Siri, Cortana, type technology has always been meant to replace humans at call centers. Once they get that perfected the human call centers go away

Rice requires a lot of water. This in not exactly a local written article but gives a spread of 2,500 Liter to 5,000 liters of rice for one Kg of rice. Currently the Philipines does not have a well diveloped irrigation network, and does not grow enough rice to support it own population needs. I am sure the if the Chinese start farming rice they will provide for the local population because they treat everyone so fairly: (sarcastic) :roflmao:

If Duterte thinks American are "loud and discourtiious" he has never eaten at a Dumaguete Restaurant with other Filipino families there also. He has never noticed how people yell to communicate across a restaurant table or to the person siting next to them, or let their children run wild through out the restaurant. With Filipino families present it is usually hard for me to carry on a conversation across the table because of the loud conversations, and children running around screaming at each other. Filipinos seldom are courteous enough to be aware of other people being present in a public place. It is all part of their culture and I have learned to live with it, but I will not deny that being loud and discourteous to others is not present with in the Filipino culture.

When I was stationed at Subic we started calling the Filipino civil service workers "Joe" and we got admonished for it our Commanding Officer because as he said it. Calling them all " Joe " is an insulting way to communicate.

Out in the boon docks where I live I will shout at a group of young boys, "Hey Joe"! They love it and will shout back at me the same.

I agree with Duterte about loud americans, I hate it when they drown out my karaoke! :clown:

I think he did what he needed to do for the Filipino people. He negotiated with China on a deal that would have ended with huge tragedy if he had followed thru with the US and pursued the use of force which is the only thing the US was offering. His choice was war or negotiation, I think he did what was best for everyone concerned. The US does not have a very good record of standing by its allies or winning wars which, in spite of it's superior forces, has not won a war since WWII. They have however started quite a few and even want to get involved where they don't have a dog in the fight, Syria. Where you need a scorecard to keep up with all the players for several different teams. All fighting for what? The spread of democracy? National Security? Sorry, I no longer buy those lines of BS.
Duterte could be at risk of assassination from US.

My thinking is most aligned with Cletus' comment. I agree that the US (from which i traveled four months ago) is all talk about protecting the PH. They give Israel $3 B in military aid, they give the PH a measly $35 M a year, a few worn out obsolete 1960's USCG cutters, and race an Arleigh Burke class destroyer thru the south china sea every month or so. They would never go to war with the Chinese, Walmart and corporate America would not allow it, even if Trump is elected. It remains to be seen whether Duterte can actually negotiate favorable agreements with the Chinese, very few people have, but i doubt it would be a total loss. Everything is relative.

I read a comment elsewhere where a Filipino complained that the US didn't provide new small arms. I told him that the Philippines has arms companies that sell to the US. Make your own d*mn small arms, you could use the jobs! The Philippines manufactures a piston action variant of the M-4 rifle that is arguable superior. When you receive aid for something you could do yourself? It weakens you, not strengthens you. Same guy thought the US bought the Philippines from Spain...I guess we did if you consider paying in blood," buying". He also said they had been resisting the Spanish for 300 years... but he didn't go on to say that they would have won in another couple of centuries. Just biding their time I suppose. A bit of national pride is a good thing in my book but don't get $#@! twisted.

I expect politicians to say things in private that I might consider disturbing. I'm sure US politicians do it all the time, check out Wiki leaks if you don't think so but they generally have the good graces to do it when they don't expect it to become common knowledge. I wonder if Duterte has grasped the concept that when cameras are present, it's the same as if we had front row seats? I don't think he's any worse than any other politician, maybe he just lacks the usual politician's guile and that might mean he's a better person? But I wish he would get better at it. Fornicating in the middle of the street scares the horses.
