Has anyone already shopped stores for GoPro here and could save me the trips looking for availability and best price?

While I like my Canon camera, mostly because of the 65x zoom lens and it isn't huge, it still is bulky for mounted use as a video camera and not even close to water resistant much less waterproof.

Order online if at all possible. Electronics in Dumaguete/Philippines will cost you about 25-50% (sometimes 100%) more than what you will find online...even after paying shipping and duty.

Decent Chinese knock offs are available in many places for 2 to 3K pesos. Or online.

    Lazada
GoPro Hero4 12MP Action Camera Silver Edition
    Amazon

Lazada is actually offering it slightly cheaper than Amazon.

Many Chinese knockoffs knockoff a whole lot of quality. There is no way a 2-3k peso adventure camera is going to come anywhere close to comparing to a new GoPro.

Oh really. So you have tried both and know that for sure? Or are you just "sayin"?

Are you implying you have a knockoff Chinese version?..... Wait a minute, yes you do... you had fun with paying import doodie... oops I mean duty. What version GoPro is it like, how is the quality, can you remind me what site you purchased from?

Yes. We had our share of problems getting it here and I would not recommend anyone do what we did but now its here, "Y" loves it. There are similar models around town for about what we ended up paying with all the "doodie" so I'd say you have to decide whether its worth taking a risk with a Chinese knockoff or not. Let me put it this way: If a Honda motorcycle was priced at 10 times more than a Rusi would you still buy the Honda? Up to you as they say.

If I had to do it again I'd take a look at the knock offs in Unitop

I have tried the cheaper Chinese knockoff versions (even cheaper US brand-name cameras) and yes they are almost always lower quality if they are in a completely different price range (not talking about a $20-40 price difference here). A lot of these new cameras rely just as much on advancements in software as they do on hardware, so even if they have the same hardware specs (which they most likely will not at that big of a price difference) there is little chance much work was put into the software of a Chinese knockoff...much the same as Chinese knockoff phones that aren't using an older version of Android. User friendliness is usually thrown right out the window on that stuff.

If someone is just using these cameras for casual use then there is no reason to go out and buy the latest GoPro model for $300+, go pick up one that is several years old for $100 or so....which will still almost certainly be better than a new Chinese knockoff at the same price.

I'm sure there are exceptions but finding any reliable information about a Chinese knockoffs or honest comparisons between them and brand names online is going to be next to impossible to find on English.
