Hope for more informed driver in the Philippines.

Apparently they is some hope on the horizon for more informed drivers if driver retesting really happens. This may just be a system to increase the income of the fixers.

All driver’s license card holder to retake exams in 2018

I particularly like these quotes from the article from the taxi driver, meaning I have driven incorrectly enough so I know how to drive... incorrectly (taxi driver) to jeepney driver, just give a renew... no test needed:

Taxi driver Ronald Ando comments, “Kung ganun, pwede naman, bakit hindi? Kasi ako sigurado ako, sa tagal ko naman na driver, papasa ako.”

(If that’s the case, sure, why not? I’m sure I will pass because I have been driving for a long time.)

While jeepney driver Patricio Galicia said, “Sa akin na professional, sana hindi na exam kasi renewal nalang, isang renew na lang
( I already have professional [license]. I am not in favor of the exam, a renewal will do.)

Do you really think that people will take a test, or will the fixer and cheater do an end run around this new regulation? Is this just another grandstand by the politicians to say they are solving problems?

I'd be all for it if it was done legit and everyone including motorcycle drivers had to take a written and physical driving exam. However I can't believe it would happen and if it did it would just be fixed. Just imagine the complaints if 50% of drivers including professional drivers lost their licenses because they can't drive properly.

 

It really wont matter because most do not have the licences in the first place, so why take a test for something you do not need most of the time to drive. Look at the motorcycles in Bacong, few are registered, kids driving around motorcycle with parents on the back. The Philippines has a long way to go with the concept of observations of laws... any laws.

Sounds like you are like the taxi driver: I have been driving so long, I do not need a test.... I know how to drive in the Philippines.... survival driving is what we call it

You will probably never see it. By the time it happens you will be so old you will be blind.

 

What should come first is walking tests,

1. walking without bumping into things/other people
2. walking without head buried in phone
3. walking without stopping in stupid places, doorways, stairways
4. walking without stepping in front of traffic with one hand waving like a stranded fish

Why should they be allowed to drive before they have mastered walking ?

 

I am not sure I know any of your regular passengers. I always heard you were driven around town...

 

By 2018 it will be lost in a warehouse full of lost papers then the flood will finish it off. Haaa Haaa
