This is the Guy (Lawyer) that caused all the problems with DI some time ago, those that were members then, may Remember the problems He/It (His Article) caused with "Shadow" (Larry) and the damage done to some members.

I don't know/remember the details about the past problems with the author and the previous forum owner (nor do I really care). I believe the article is an opinion and it should be taken as just that. If someone doesn't like their opinion being questioned/debated then maybe they shouldn't be writing it in a newspaper. Really don't know what else to say about it...members here are free to read, publicly debate and question the article as far as I'm concerned. Anyone that has a problem with that can scroll down to bottom of the page, hit the "Contact Us" link and send me a message...that will be promptly archived and ignored.

Duterte warns of suspension of habeas corpus writ

Palace: Duterte statement on suspension of writ of habeas corpus a warning to lawless elements

    Interesting quote.
"Mine is self-defense in defense of the helpless children who are not in a position to really weigh things. It is in defense of a race. It is in defense of my fellowmen,” he said.

He's protecting his countrymen by suspending a process established to prevent illegal incarceration so that he can indiscriminately apply pressure to whomever he wants? Who cares if a few innocents get caught in the crossfire. I wonder how many innocent lambs will be sacrificed at the alter.

As they say, the best defense is a good offense. The drug problem has now reached epidemic proportions, without Marshall Law all is lost. Can you say slippery slope........

He learned from the democrats in the US to say it's "For the children." One of my favorite Jocelyn Elder lines.

I'm sure it has been used quite a bit by both parties in the US.

Good old Yap. Land and crop, thief might be too strong a word but I will let others decide. Remember that he took the peoples money for the redemption of their land then kept the land, harvested and sold their crops.:asshat:

In this country it seems "Power" is much more important than "Law". Fair, honest "Law" seldom is involved as the deciding factor in a dispute. Impunity rating for the Philippines is one of the highest in the world. Although personally, like many, I would like to see the drug influence on the poor masses, and the rich drug lords be reduced significantly, "Power" is what really control life in the Philippines, not law. In the cases of prisoners being serve warrents at 4 AM, and shot in a gun battle in a jail cell, power is the deciding factors, as the discussion of law disappear with time. What have you heard about that case lately? It is the "power" that is important, political power... the power worth killing your political opponent for. How can you explain that there is law and order in a country, when one man gets off a plane on a tarmac, and is shot in front of a limit group of people, on video and after decades the "Law" can not figure out who did it? On a more personal scale, the power or lack of power of law is illustrated in the life of an Expat when there is an accident between a foreigner and a Filipino... the foreigner pays most times, no matter who was right in the "law". The fact that one party is a native citizen is enough to give them "power" over the non citizen. The "law" and "power" starts with the individual enforcers, whose cousin just broke the law that was suppose to be protecting the non-cousin citizen/Expat. Here the system of justice is not blind, but opens it eyes and see the relative/family member is right according to the one interpreting the law and rules in the relatives' favor. So whether Habeas Corpus is enforced or not, it is really is only a point of discussion, because in the Philippines there is no "rule of law" most times but only the rule of the connected person/relative/power person. The full and true force of law is seldom involved in disputes in the Philippines, relationship, money and connections are the rules of laws in the Philippines. Judges sell TRO's (temporary restraining orders) that stop the awarding of government projects to the "winning" contractor without the connection or money for the expensive TRO's. So the common citizen never sees the proposed project which is suppose to help him built. Most of the time the real "law" only is involved when there is a possibility of the international community focusing on the situation, and the Filipinos gets afraid of losing face in the world eyes, otherwise... well you know how it works... just watch a LTO officer in front of Lee Plaza waving to his friends/neighbors/or relatives as traffic is in chaos. Habeas Corpus is like a law concept... the ones that are really never implemented as intended. Forget about Habeas Corpus for now, I would just like to see the illegal Karoke resto bar in my neighborhood quieted down by midnight... because I am imprisoned in a wave of noise. Give me Habeas Corpus or ear plugs. .... :o o:

A most recent example of implimentation of Filipino laws by Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Director General Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa. I believe he is the highest with boots on the ground law enforcer, implementor in the Philippines laws, yet he does not follow his own guidelines or the national rules when a friend makes a request to him. It is what it is:
