‘Rabid’ dog attacks 18 people in Cebu
    By: Dominic Yasay - Correspondent / @DYasayCDN

CEBU CITY — Residents of a village in Mandaue City, Cebu, have been warned and told to watch out for a stray dog that reportedly attacked 18 people on Saturday.

Most of the victims were walking down a street in Barangay Casuntingan when they were attacked by the dog, said village chair Oscar del Castillo
The victims suffered bite wounds in the legs, he said.
The dog was limping and was salivating, which has led local officials to believe that it was rabid. The dog’s fur was colored brown but had splotches of white around the neck.
Its owner was identified as Webster “Macoy” Seno, of Sitio Mangga in Barangay Casuntingan.
Some of the victims were brought to the Vicente Sotto Memorial Center while others were sent to the Casuntingan Health Center. They were given anti-tetanus shot on since the two medical facilities had no anti-rabies medication.
Operatives of the Casuntingan police ptation and barangay tanods had been ordered to look for the dog. CBB ‘Rabid’ dog attacks 18 people in Cebu

Looks like those who were bitten are in for a world of hurt. And so avoidable. I have bought a vial of anti-rabies at Mercury drugs in Cebu locations for 1,000 pesos (may have gone up by now) and there is enough in that vial to treat 10 people.

Both my wife and son were given anti-tetanus injections along with anti-rabies injections while they waited out the 4 weeks to see if the dogs died. Thankfully, the two dogs were not rabid so they didn't have to go through the painful series.
Dumaguete provincial hospital has an animal byte treatment center as does the city medical center next to the main fire station but city hall.

When a dog has bitten 18 people for no reason and a symptom of rabies is salivating there is a very good chance it will have rabies.

I agree, but rumors abound, was it really salivating, or jsut someone said it was? there is much ignorance here about rabies, the correct thing to do is catch the dog and watch it for a few days. If it has rabies it will soon become obvious, but here they want to give everyone shots which are expensive.

some dogs can become mean when mistreateed, if turned loose will go around biting. It does not mean they have rabies, just bad owners. shooting the dog and the owner cures the problem, but they shouold keep the dog alive long enough to find out if it does have ravies, and not base it on gossip that it was salivating. probably not going to happoen that way.

A while back, maybe a year ago now, I read an article in the newspaper that the local Dumaguete government hired 2 dog catchers for each barangay and gave them a portable cage on wheels to put the dogs in. I have never seen these dog catchers working. Has anyone seen them ? We quit walking in our neighborhood years ago due to all the loose dogs. It's a sad state of affairs when the dogs control our lives instead of the other way around.
