Hi. My wife is in Dumaguete for a couple of weeks and would like to visit some of her family one of whom lives on a dirt road in the "mountains". Is anyone aware of a taxi service where you can rent a 4 wheel drive vehicle and a driver for 1 day, so she can visit with them? Thanks.

I am sure you can find someone, the likely way her family and everyone else on the mountain get home is a hubbel-hubbel if they don't have their own bike.

Thanks. I've heard the term, but not sure what one is so I google an image of it, but got some interesting images. From race cars to wagons....

I assume a hubbel-hubbel is more for mass transit. I was looking for something with air-conditioning and comfortable that that comes and goes as you like. Maybe I'm not understanding what a bubble-hubbel is.

I think it's coming back. Is that the 2 seat truck that has an open in the back that people can sit in? It looks kind of like a small van with the back top cut off.

Hi, Habal Habal is a motor bike - usually seating 3 or 4 people. The 2 seat 'truck' you mention is a Multicab.
On the corner of the Yala Bldg, just around the corner from Robinson's, is a small kiosk that does rental cars. I'm not certain but I think they have 4x4 vehs.

A hubble-Hubble is a 'business' motorbike TMX Supremo: , the same type is also the basis of a trike. This version has the seat extended and suspension upgraded to carry a couple more people and/or goods (50kg sack of rice...). My wife is from Mampas Valencia up the mountain, her and her family get home from Valencia by 1)personal motorbike, 2)Hubble-Hubble, 3)walking. These are the standard options available, anything else will require special arrangements.

I do understand the question, you may have noticed I am selling my Kawasaki Rouser 180 street bike and have bought a Honda XR150L dual sport bike, which indeed makes it easier to get up the mountain as it is not paved all the way.

You may be surprised to know that the type of motorcycle has nothing to do with it. Here is the wiki on it
Habal-Habal - Wikipilipinas: The Hip 'n Free Philippine Encyclopedia
And here is the Facebook version

And here is the condensed version:

OK, surprised. All I know is what I see at the Hubbal-Habbal parking area and the ones driving around town and up on the mountain.

Let me clarify. Essentially, I'm looking for a driver who works by the day and has access to a 4 wheel drive vehicle that can traverse the mountain roads. Having never been to the mountains (closest to that was Balugo), I picture dirt roads with ruts that can be traversed by a 4 wheel drive vehicle. If the roads are so bad or small that even that is impossible, I guess a motorcycle it is. I'm talking in the Bindoy area so north about 90km. A vehicle would be much more comfortable over this distance than a motorcycle and probably safer too. Thanks.

1st, my mistake for reading Dumaguete and 'mountains' in your OP and assuming you meant up past Valencia.

2nd, I have not been to the area your wife will be heading so don't have first hand knowledge of local transportation or roads. What does your wife and her family say about how they would travel from Duma? In my case a 4-wheel drive vehicle would work, it just isn't common and ready to go as hubble-hubble drivers are. In your case I think you are looking for exactly the best solution, next would be a bus to the nearest town and switching to the local method.

A 4-wheel vehicle with driver should be able to be found without much difficulty. I am actually surprised a few options haven't been posted yet. The only help I can give you is I know they are available, had 3 or 4 options to choose from for our wedding. That was back in July and was all done face to face (boots on the ground) - which reminds me...

If you are still looking once you are/she is here, from the Old Cathedral cross the street to the park and turn right, left at the first intersection and continue walking beside the park, at the next intersection (end of the park) look right. The flower shop you are looking at on the opposite corner has a husband of one of the girls that works there who drives and has 2 vehicles adequate for your needs.
