When you have a passport, and if needed a visa, you should have the right to travel anywhere you want. I was really surprised, when I found out about the rules (if there are any rules), for filipino to leave their own country. It's like the old days in communist countrys

After reading a bit more in these links I realize that I have to do a bit more than just pay for the flights and hotels. I have, so far, done the following today:
    • Sent copies of both my passports + pages with Philippine stamps/extensions.
    • Sent copies of my most recent US and Philippines drivers license, ACR card and military ID, front and back.
    • Submitted a Letter of Invitation / Affidavit of Support - Guarantee to the Philippine Embassy in Cambodia. (Waiting on reply from Embassy. This one might have to be skipped if they say I have to visit the Embassy in person...or they don't reply in time)
    • Sent copy of my paystub in case they need me to prove I can finance the vacation. (F'n wonderful! My x-wife didn't even get to see that......:shifty:)
    • Signed her up for an appointment for the CFO Counseling and Guidance Program in Cebu. :sour:
    • Sent copy of my Dissolution of Marriage (in case the CFO counselor asks for it....even though it is completely unnecessary!).
    • Found a few pictures of us together to show to immigration in case they ask.
    • Ate some crow and cursed a lot.

Just as fun as buying insurance - which in a way is exactly what you are doing.

Wow! Sounds like you have found the love of your life. :woot: Or maybe you have a LOT of free time in Afghanistan. On the bright side, this may have saved you a couple of hundred bucks and avoided her being offloaded.

I have plenty of free time. I also promised the vacation before I started this thread....:shifty: I will do everything I can to keep my word. If her government still refuses to let her exercise her constitutional right to travel abroad and f*cks up the vacation for her it had absolutely nothing to do with a lack of effort from me.

I guess the nanny government has determined its people are too stupid to travel without first asking big brother government permission and that the "public safety" is broad enough of a term for the tyrants to take away this right.

Note: The right to travel has become more restrictive with every new constitution the Philippines puts out:

The liberty of abode and of changing the same within the limits prescribed by law shall not be impaired.

The liberty of abode and of travel shall not be impaired except upon lawful order of the court, or when necessary in the interest of national security, public safety, or public health.

The liberty of abode and of changing the same within the limits prescribed by law shall not be impaired upon lawful order of the court. Neither shall the right to travel be impaired except in the interest of national security, public safety or public health, as may be provided by law.

The liberty of abode seems to have been strengthened in the 1987 constitution but the right to travel is no better off. (At least that's my interpretation - which could be wrong.)

I'm not buying insurance, I'm providing it......and sh*t, forgot to get travel insurance for her today. So yeah, I will be buying literal travel insurance as well as providing it. :shifty:

I meant going through the CFO process is similar to getting insurance. The seminar certificate being a 'get through immigration without hassle (much, theoretically)' card. Or 'leave me alone and let me travel' insurance.
