Very good points here, Dr. Shiva. So far I'm seeing a very ambitious plan by the city administration on addressing real problems of the city and to be fair to them, this is the only city admin that have eyes on the real problems of the city and have established necessary groundwork to make all these happen. I just read this morning even that they have inked an agreement in Taipei for smart solutions..

"smart solutions for activities and services to include the computerization of payroll, business taxes and property assessment; traffic management; water and solid management; tourism promotion; road network infrastructure; cultural heritage preservation and other smart related applications."

When did this happen? I was there several years ago and I thought it was a complete traffic gridlock (especially around the port/market/oceanfront/national highway/basically anything near the downtown area between the two bridges on the national highway going north and south) and a dirty, hellishly hot, urbanized, cesspool to boot. When I was there it took me 30 minutes to driver around the market, that was about twice the size of the Dumaguete market, due to a horrible traffic jam of trikes. Absolutely no way for me to weave my way through that mess as it was so tightly packed with trikes there was barely enough room for me to put my legs down....a few times I had to prop myself up on the leg rests of the trikes due to it being so tightly packed and to keep my legs from getting pinned/broken. Sucking in black soot from all the trikes the entire time.

I was stuck in that shithole for 2 nights waiting for a ferry to Cebu due to bad weather/rough seas and I hated every second of it. Food was terrible, the nicer hotels/resorts would barely earn a 2 star review from me, there was a massive gathering of Muslims promoting their religion on the boardwalk one night, the girl I hooked up with one night I had to kick out of the room because her snatch smelled like someone was cooking Filipino dried fish up there and stunk up the entire room, I had to bribe the port authority to get them to sign off/approve my registration and then I had to bribe some little snot-nosed homeless kid that was "working" at the port to open the security gate to let me load my bike on to the ferry (the security guard also refused to open the gate until I paid the bribe to the little sh*t-head). The only good thing I can say about that city is that, "hey, at least I didn't get mugged."....though I'm sure if I had stuck around much longer I might have had that happen as well.

The only place I hate more than Ormac is the island of Masbate.

Considering all that has been going on in Dumaguete and the Visayas recently and over the years I think they need every single service that company is offering. Good to see they are reaching for outside help about the cities issues. (Though I'd love to see the face on that company's assessment team when they get their first ride through the city. :jawdrop:)

Wow did you had bad experiences in Ormoc. In which year was that? According to my wife in year 2016 the traffic was becoming worse there than in 2013 as I was there. And now there are 3 (correct is 4, but one is on hold) new malls being constructed. From the Robinson mall in the north they hope that the people will go there than in the downtown area for shopping. Which I doubt. The Gaisano Riverside was constructed for the people of the westside but that did not work.
My personal experience of traffic comparison in year 2013 was that the traffic in Dumaguete was worse than the one in Ormoc.
Off-topic: there are some good hotels in Ormoc like the Sabin Resort. And the utilities are more reliable in Ormoc. But I suppose that even this city is on my retirement list, it is not the top one. It lacks the green plants Dumaguete and other cities have.

Back to topic: Can we do anything to help the city in the traffic case like sending requests, assistances, recommendations to the government? Or is the only thing we can do is to accept the mess as is?

I believe this thread is the most recent one on traffic.

Traffic is probably the most popular topic on this forum. It has been subject to many opinions/thoughts since this forum first came online. This is why I have very little faith the issue will ever be resolved. Just search "traffic" and you will that it is spoken about ad nauseam....and traffic has only gotten worse over the years.

I'm going to go ahead and lock this thread since it seems that everything that's going to be said about the underground parking lot has already been said.
