HUKAD posted the news last Saturday. The fire fighters had a hard time because of the very narrow pathway,"kalye apiki" (apiki meaning inadequate), towards the five houses affected. It's a tiny branch of D.C Road (Western Nautical Highway starting from KIA Motors, Maritime College, Orient Foods factory towards Tubtubon). As a child I hated passing that short cut going to Carmelite Chapel or to Agan an beach because the ground was always damp and slippery. I preferred the one beside Mindanao shop.
Four households actually, one with a sarisari store with cash burned together with the goods. Only the 2nd floor of the 4th house was damaged.
This is what happens when you (or your neighbors) are stingy with the right of way. If you didn't leave enough room for a fire truck to get to your property you shouldn't cry when your house (or business) burns down. Considering that many houses are wired up by completely incompetent "electricians" I'm surprised this doesn't happen much more often.
What if you did leave lots of space, and the barangay road is plenty wide enough, but some tw@t build out into the public road and suddenly there is not enough space. Or perhaps a sacred tree grows in the road and they can't cut it down because no one has a permit to do that.
Then that tw@t should be held liable for his tw*tiness....or the firetrucks should have large brush-guards mounted on the front of them and be able to plow through any tw@t's property that sits on a public road.
