Do any of you use or have any prior experiences with or info on the USAA Bank in San Antonio TX.? I am considering moving my direct deposit to them and would like to here your input on that bank. Thanks
No experience with USAA, but figured I'd chime since no one else has yet. I have an account with Navy Federal for my retired pay and they have the best customer service I've come across as banks/credit unions go. You can set everything up on-line, no need to physically go to a location. I'm big on customer service and these guys fit the bill. Shawn
- Regarding USAA, we don't have a bank account with them, but have a USAA credit card, and we use them for our home and auto insurance with no problem, everything online works well, no in-person required. - Regarding Navy Federal, no experience with them yet, but I just wanted to add that they just recently changed their eligibility requirements so I'm anticipating signing up. Previously you had to be a military retiree OR sign up while you were on active duty (you could keep the membership afterwards) OR be sponsored by a relative who was already a member. Being just a "regular" veteran wasn't good enough unless you signed up while on active duty. But the new requirements expand eligibility to any US honorably discharged veteran: Military Veterans and Family Members Now Eligible To Join Navy Fed
I know this thread has been dormant and the question is 5 months old, but I can answer FWIW. I have been banking with USAA FSB in San Antonio for several years. Before I retired, my paycheck (civilian) was direct deposited and now my pension (government) is also direct deposited. Never had any problems. Their customer service is excellent. They reimburse $10/month if you have any non-USAA ATM fees (which for anyone not living in San Antonio is ALL of them.) Depositing paper checks is easy and can be done online with your smartphone camera and a decent wifi connection. For some reason, that online deposit system does not like US Treasury checks and those need to be mailed to San Antonio. If you can live with doing virtually all of your banking online, by ATM or through the mail, USAA FSB is a good option, IMHO.
Ditto with NYC, I have been with USAA for more than 20years now. Banking is easy (in the States), auto, renters, property insurance has the best rates around and great coverage. Although I’m not clear on atm reimbursement using a Philippines banking atm...I’ll call USAA tomorrow and chime back in here as today as it is turkey day here in the U.S. I’ll be in dumaguete in 3weeks from now, yes!
Been with USAA for a couple decades, pension and social security direct deposit works like a charm, credit cards great. easy Skype, easy wire transfers (free if you're active duty), no fee, easy atm usage and reimbursement, easy communication... Had auto insurance for over 15 yrs, cheapest available (include annual dividend if you're a member (ex-military).... Have deposited checks via website often.
also RE: USAA credit cards, they don't take anything in the exchange, it's exactly the international exchange rate, or maybe .1 peso, like 50.4 versus 50.5 to the dollar, it was a couple days before i checked it. If it's a big expenditure, just skype usaa the day before and get "pre-authorization" so they don't decline the transaction. Small transactions never a problem. But i usually post into the usaa website form "out of the country in the philippines" every six months or so...
