the time has come for me to learn some visayan and i'm looking for recommendations for an english/visayan dictionary for android. i just looked at google play and there's too many choices. i'd like an app that works both on or off line and also translates phrases. thanks...
Me too. but trying to translate from Visayan is too hard because the slang changes from week to week and from town to town. Basic words will translate on Google Translate but take a text or a post from Facebook and try to translate it and not a hope. Oftentimes even the gf cannot translate for me as she says it does not translate easily
Is not really a language but a Dialect of CEBUANO and of course is full of Slang and mispronounced words with Endings removed. Azon tells me you would be better off with an English CEB app because all visayan uses will Understand but she adds that you may get strange looks because you will be using Full Words and not those spoken in your Locale. Once Mastered you can then start to tailor it to your own needs.
That's Tagalog! lasing(hubog)-drunk lasengo(palahubog)-drunkard *take note of the spelling which also changes the pronunciation. And btw, what's alcoholic!?
I bought a Dictionary from the Book Seller at Robinson's but I have to admit I use the Cebuano Translator in Google more often than not to translate or try and work out how to convert English to Cebuano, but remember to try it both ways as often you translate English to Cebuano, then when you translate Cebuano to English it is different again, so you can then choose alternative words that will translate to Cebuano then back again to English whilst retaining the same word and meaning... Try and keep it simple and it should work fine.
Google translate is really weird. You've done a smart move to search the same word the other way around. Example: generous google translate: ubay-ubay nga(referring to 'amount') What I was looking for: manggihatagon generosity(this time it's right) google translate: pagkamanggihatagon I would suggest listening to a lot of conversation-radio, tv, members of the family and discover root words as you memorize the phrases until you figure out how a sentence is constructed while increasing your vocabulary. Parroting is the first step to learn a new language imho
Just say it in English. If they don't understand, say it louder. When there's a big misunderstanding, YELL in English. I've seen a lot of people do this. Not sure if it really worked. arm waving is also an option.
Ahhh!now the pointing, yes even my local neighbours do the Pointing thing so if they can't understand each other sometimes how are we expected to be understand and be understood
