Just curious, the "Pinoy Aquaman" story says: "Bucking strong currents, Macarine crossed Tañon Strait from Silliman Beach in Dumaguete to Barangay Tambisan... (in Siquijor)"
Is that actually considered part of the Tañon Strait? I thought it only applied to the stretch between Negros and Cebu.

Answering your question with a question: how to find the distance from Don Islands to the area between Dumaguete and Siquijor?
Wikipedia says Tañon Strait is "161 km (100 miles) long, connects the Visayan Sea in the north to the Bohol Sea in the south. Its width varies from 5 to 27 kilometres (3 to 17 mi), with the narrowest point in the south.[1] In the north the strait is closed off by the Don Islands, the largest of which is Bantayan. "
    Bohol Sea=Mindanao Sea

Google maps has a measuring tool, you can pick any two points.

Yes, but can you allow for the currents and the swimmer's drift? The actual distance as the crow flies is a useless number when doing a swim like that.

Okay, I tried it on the computer. It's quite a pain to follow the curve but google says it's 210.394 kms up to Dumaguete only. If you hover on the starting point, it says Visayan Sea, drag it down a bit and Tañon starts a little above Escalante.
