OK, please check this one I found and give me your expert opinion before I start. Here is the tutorial:
Root Samsung Galaxy J2 Prime SM-G532M Android 6.0.1 & Install TWRP

First caution, the site specifies sm-g532m and my phone say sm-g532g so is that HUGE or minor difference?

Aww shite. I'm well and truly f*cked now. I tried to root the phone using a tutorial and it did not work. Ended up with a screen that required a password that I don't have and cannot get.

So I tried a factory reset and its locked in a loop from hell and will no longer work. Brick.

Thanks, I'll give it a try tomorrow when feeling better. There are so many, MANY sites out there that are filled with "helpful" advice until you find out that all the links are to ads or malware or pay to use stuff. But I'll have a look as I have not seen that one yet

I wouldn't recommend it. The site says the procedure and firmware is for g532m only.

My previous comments about it being as easy as following step by step instructions was wrong. I'm used to rooting flagship stock Android Google phones. Things can get a bit complicated with budget phones from different manufacturers that have a different firmware image for every country they are sold in. It also gets a bit more complicated due to the 3rd world developers that don't foresee and warn about the issues that may arise....not to mention that many of them in Asia are thin-skinned/lazy and don't like to admit their scripts weren't up to par and need editing. I was reading some threads on the XDA forums (where I always get my root instructions) on rooting your phone and some of those developers need a smack to the back of the head. Some threads had 2-3 pages of members posting issues they were having before the "developer" decided it was time to inform people the script had issues. (Yet they still didn't add warnings or update the OP.)

I'm quite sure I could root the phone easily but there could be issues along the way that would need to be fixed and require a bit more in-depth knowledge of working with the Android OS. I'm also quite sure you could do it as well but you may need to learn how to properly recover a phone from a boot loop. That can be time consuming in the Philippines due to the internet being so slow and unreliable in the Philippines and the files needed to recover being around 1GB in size.

BTW: With Samsung you can recover and go back to stock firmware image easily with Odin. Just make sure you already have the official Samsung G532G firmware image downloaded to your computer or you may be down for around a day while you wait for it to download.

Also, the rooting procedure usually requires wiping the phone. Backup before you attempt.

Thanks Dude, but I may have already solved the problem. How? Gave it to the gf to fix. She went downtown looking around and asking questions WBOF (without benefit of foreigner) and found a guy/repair shop who was willing to fix it for her and whom she felt she could trust.

The guy worked on the phone (mainly searching and downloading different things to find what worked) from 10 am yesterday until 5 am this morning. I know that because she stayed at the store almost the whole day to be sure her genuine Samsung parts were not "replaced" with Chinese parts but seems the guy was/is good. He only tinkered with the software and did not break the seal. At 6 PM he sent her home because he was closing and told her he would work overtime and text her once the job was complete and the phone was all working again. He texted a couple time during the evening and a final text at 5 am said it was all done and she could pick it up at the shop at 9 AM this morning.

What he says he did is return everything to Factory specs. Not a simple task after I had amateurishly screwed it up without backing anything up. What he will do on Tuesday is do a proper root job on her. (The phone, not the gf).

The quote so far is 800 pesos to return to specs and another 400 to do the root. Sounds fair. Hope the story has a happy ending.

EDIT: Gf picked up the phone at 10 AM. Price was as stated. Its back in the original state. Works well. She is happy. Gonna get it rooted on Tuesday from the same guy. Fingers crossed

As mentioned, I turned the gf loose to find someone and the best directions she could give me was across the street from the Holy Child Hospital beside Lucky 99 and he works on IPhones as well as Samsung but he does not do the Chinese Phones. So you might get lucky with him. Tell him the "girl with the Samsung J2 Prime" was saying that the owner of the shop was very good. Flattery will get you everywhere :-)
