FYI, I disagree with both statements in this post. They don't favor drunks, nobody wants those problems...but they do serve alcohol and have a "disco" on the property so you will have to put up with drunks/alcoholics to some extent.

I also disagree that there aren't many drunks visiting Why Not.....there are a whole lot of them....it's a restobar/disco....and they serve alcohol.....and it's the Philippines....and there are a lot of drunks/alcoholics living in and visiting the Philippines.

Also, the guy in question wasn't a "pet drunk" (I think, I'm not exactly sure what that is). The OP said he was from further north on Negros. Likely not a regular at Why Not (if that's what a "pet drunk" is).

I am not an alcoholic and can and do drink occasionally. Unfortunately I have several very close relatives in the USA that are alcoholics. Some recovering, some not. I therefore feel obliged to put my two cents in. We don't know this fellow but there has to be some problem, be it alcoholism and/or with his self control, if he gets himself into such shape. He is the only one that can be truly blamed. However, Why Not is thoroughly to blame for his actions causing discomfort to others. In most of the world bars will cut you off if you get too hammered. They do this because of the legal liability they incur if they allow you to get drunk and you injure someone. We all know in the Philippines there is no realistic liability and therefore no incentive to control exposure to it. I am the Butt In type and I too would have had to have a word with whoever was in charge plus the guard before I left. Probably the manager when I returned also. I feel it is right to let them know that they should not allow this. Whether it is medication, food, alcohol, bad air, whatever, if you act like that some remedy needs to be forthcoming. Why Not needs to do better than that. Lastly, If I knew him I would definitely "dress him down" with much gusto when he sobered up, but everyone screws up and I could have done as bad or worse than what occurred in this incident.

1)Not every culture sees that as a big deal, instead of taking a picture they should have informed him that was very very bad manors here, to the point of insulting everyone who saw it. He may have been apologetic and grateful for the lesson. If he responded as a jerk, then yes, have at him.

2)as a comparison, let's not forget it is perfectly acceptable to walk by and spit a big wad of snot on the sidewalk in front of this table, AND to p*ss on the wall 10 feet away. Both of which are much more offensive to me than someone with their feet up.

3)Not sure about the link you saw but all of the posts my wife showed me called all westerners "Germs". Insulting an entire group of people on purpose because of one guy's accidental insult.

I wasn't saying to call a Filipino out on it, I still kind of default to 'it's their country, I am a guest, if I don't like it I should leave'. I was just making a comparison I would think anyone would agree with. You have a choice A)someone pissing on the wall within earshot of your table watching splatter land on the floor by the corner B)have someone stand in front of your table spitting crap all over the sidewalk C)see a guy 2 tables over with his feet up. Certainly, even the 'distress photographer' would pick option C?

Couldn't agree more. Not allowing criticism because it might hurt some feelings at the receiving end is wrong on so many levels. How can anything get better if pointing out mistakes (by actually talking to each other) is off limits?
