    I'm looking for a cheap way to make calls Switzerland <=> Philippines. Normal means are horribly expensive.

    Google Voice

    I use Google Voice to send / receive free texts. I receive voice mails to my number. I have used it to make free calls to the U.S. but I haven't used it for that in a while. The service seems to be regularly changing, so I don't know what the current state is for calling but I'm sure the feature is still there. All free.

    I don't call from the computer, downloaded the 'Hangouts Dialer' app on my phone. It connects to my GoogleVoice number for free calls to the US. Annual fee is $0

    Magic Jack is great, too. I had to set it up in the states before I went to the Philippines so that I could have a US based #. I forget what happened, but it stopped working, though, and I switched to using Skype.

    Thanks, you have convinced me, that's the way I will go. Sounds like the best thing is to get it while still here in the States and set it up and then bring it with me. A nice feature is that I can transfer my existing phone number to the magic jack phone so I don't even need to give my friends a new number to call.
