I am most certainly not a lover of Spiders but not quite an Arachnophobic ( Well I don't think so) but we should all remember that the Spider is a very important part of the insect Food chain, we can't live a comfortable life if we extinguish Spiders,
***Spiders are extremely important to agriculture and horticulture. They are predators and their main prey are insects, many of which eat our crops and pester our livestock. In Britain alone, it has been estimated that spiders eat more than the weight of the human population in insects each year!***

Are Spiders Useful - British Arachnological Society
Of Course this small piece seems to be about the UK but I would imagine it is about the World in general.
Spiders don't really come looking for us and I certainly don't go looking for them. If they can get rid of the Dreaded Mozzies then I for one say let them get on with what they do.
JMHO But we should think on

On this issue alone I will agree, I live near a river and rice fields and mozzies here can be aright proper PITA!! Having fallen ill in the past to Mosquitoes (in Oz) and having suffered years from the side effects of those illnesses, anything that eradicates these hell born pests I say GO FOR IT!

3-4 inches. It was an aggressive little bugger. Wanted to get to my shadow then pulled those front legs up like it wanted to fight when I disagreed with that idea. Stunned it with an air blast from an air rifle then finished off with some lighter fluid and a Zippo. (Reason it is black and I was able to get the camera so close.)

This is just awesome LOL, I have been staying in Vietnam for 2 years, saw these creatures once or twice only (scary ones). But did see numerous snakes, one just in the center of Hochiminh city, wtf??:o o:
