Is it allowed to keep an air rifle? Sounds like a good idea to have one around just for critter defense, but I thought that they were not permitted to be owned by anyone except a Phil. citizen.

There was an advert for an Air Rifle in the Classifieds here but I cannot find it, it did explain the legalities of ownership after the seller was questioned by a member here... @Wrye do you remember the Post?

I am in Afghanistan. However, I'm not authorized to own/use firearms here either (company doesn't want to pay the extra money for insurance). I ordered the air rifle (BB/pellet gun) from Walmart and had it shipped out to the APO here for pest control.

Air rifles are not firearms...even though a well placed shot from <100 meters could kill a person with the little .177 air rifle I'm using. There are air rifles out there that can kill deer, wild bore and even larger bears from 100+ meters (some shoot a .30+ caliber round at supersonic speeds).

These rifles, while usually very expensive, would be legal for a foreigner to own in the Philippines since there is no gunpowder. RA 10591 says a firearm is:
That "or any similar instrument or implement" does not include air rifles.

I do remember it. Don't know where it went to though.

Last I heard was that they removed the necessity to register the weapon at the local police office, as it used to be required.

I wonder how many pumps that takes or does it use a CO2 cartridge? Better yet, how about a semi-automatic one with CO2. I can see how giving my Crossman 760 the usual 10 pumps might be just enough time for the critter to make an escape.
