    Howdy all.

I am putting together a little website compiling the “best of” Dumaguete in a (somewhat) concise manner.

The first section is going to be on dining. I ain’t no foodie, but there are actually some halfway decent places to chow in the City of Gentle People.

I don’t go out a HUGE amount, so I am asking members to give their opinion on what they think of some of the local establishments – and take more suggestions.

Here is what I’ve gotten so far.

Best Korean: Soban (hands down my favorite resto in the city), Fish 153 near old Atong Kamalig
Best Chinese: Power Up across from Sans Rival. (Sadly, just changed Chinese chefs….)
    Best Japanese: Mifune
Best Turkish: Anadolu Food Corner (don’t like location, though).
Best “Island” Food: True Love Café (goat curry and dumplings)
    Best Filipino: Café Laguna, Lantaw.
Best Russian: Café 4Tea2. Blinchiki wrap sammiches are fantastic.
Best Tocino/Street BBQ: Escarda’s across from Asian College.
Best Pizza: Hmmmmmmm……. I actually REALLY like the pizza over at Rolling Pin.
Best Ambiance: Gabby’s Bisto (American chic),
Best Desert/Bakery: Sans Rival (fugging awesome carrot cake and decadent butter silvanas….), Gabby’s Bistro for their apple crumble, Rolling Pin for their breads (bagels in particular).
    Best Cheeseburger: Lord Byrons
Best Filet Mignon: Moooon’s/Café Racer (same owner and 290 p)
    Best Ribs: Lord Byrons
    Best Halo-Halo: Bethel Special
Best Italian: Pasta King(?). That place under Blue Monkey had a real Italian chef for a while – great cook but I think he is gone now. :(
    Best Seafood: Hayahay (Dumaguete Special)
Best in Dauin: Mike’s Dive Café
Best in Banilad: Andy’s Golden Grill
    Best in Sibulan?
Best Ice Cream: Dude’s place up in Valencia near Red Tables – anyone know name of owner or establishment?

I haven’t included some places like Flip-Flops, Mahogany, Octagon or similar music/food/drink hangouts as they will be in another section.

So, what have I missed other than a lot? What's on your favorite/go-to dining list?

No don't, please. This is the dang problem with us foreigners in Dumaguete. We tell all the other foreigners the great places to go and then on Saturday buffet we can't get a seat because all the other people we told got there first. Keep the really good, hidden ones, off the list. They don't need the added advertising :blackalien:

BEST Halo-Halo ever is at the Eatery beside the Play Pen at Hypermart, Has beaten every place I have tried, LOTS of FLAVOUR instead of bland Ice like the others.

It's been awhile since I've tried many of these places but I agree with most everything you have here. The ones I don't agree with are things I haven't tried before. For the ribs I would say Captain Ribbers but I haven't tried Lord Byrons and it has been awhile since I ate at Ribbers.

The information is already out there on different websites (Including DI Food and Nightlife | Dumaguete Info). The beans have already been spilled.

Filet mignon at Cafe racer? I tried this once and it is "you get what you pay for" but far from good. For good steak I go to Flip-flops or Casablanca (which is a great option for other dishes as well).

Korean: PEARL, slightly better, on Hibbard down from Bianco
Pizza / Italian: my vote is PASTA KING, Locsin at Santa Catalina, shouldn't vote on pizza tho, haven't been to Rolling Pin yet, maybe next week..
Best Eggs Benedict: ALIMA, followed closely by CASABLANCA.
Best in Sibulan? Was going to say AZALEA, but it's in San Jose on the way to Lake Balinsasayao, great views / quiet / ambience / good food

In general, ALIMA and ANDAMO, both new places run by local folks who have experience in the states, have some of the Best Tastes. The Pan-Seared fish at ALIMA is out of this world (as is the Asian Chicken Salad), around the corner behind the 7-11 slightly across from Silliman Med Cntr. ADAMO behind EA car wash (best car wash <grin>), National just north of Cangs.

Best Humba; GABBI'S on Rivero, also ESTRELLA'S, Zamora near Valencia Square and LANTAW
Best Schnitzel: CASABLANCA (& big enough to feed a family)

You also missed Best M*xic*n (or is that still a no-no?).. SENIORITA'S is so m*xic*n that when the waitress was asked if the owner was from the United States, she replied, "No Sir, he's from Texas.".....

Best Filet Mignon: haven't found it yet, agree with Jens,
    Ribeye: maybe SALAYA.

AND FOR G**D'S SAKE, will someone teach restaurant staffs (and owners and managers) here that Appetizers come FIRST, followed 15 min later (or so) by the MAIN COURSES, SERVED TOGETHER, REPEAT, TOGETHER, REPEAT, TOGETHER...WHY is that so difficult, not 20 minutes apart... ??? (i know, picky, picky, picky)...

    Thanks Irenicus

You can knock azelea of the list now, have not visited the place in a while so took a ride over the hills today for lunch with another forum member. We were the only ones there when we got there, wanted the brushetta and a buko shake and out of stock so ordered a toasted ham and cheese sandwitch and a coffee and this is what came out,p160! They had a young guy who understood no english and a girl who was slightly better, the old staff were good and also was served on nice white modern plates.
Tried asking what happened and no one under stood as usual.Ended up going back to kizmajules in sibulan for pulled pork and blue cheese, alway reliable!
