Really???? How do you get a tourist Visa for p500 a year???

There a 4 different categories of SRRV Visa and different people are looking for different things. Perhaps instead of telling everyone this Visa is a joke, what you mean is the version of this Visa you qualify for makes no sense for you?

Especially for those who qualify for the $1,500 investment and $10/year renewal it can be very appealing.

Sorry, SilverBullet, but i don't feel the SRRV is useless. I NEVER have to go to an Immigration office again, the PRA in Cebu will renew once a year by email (chatted with Jacquie at PRA two days ago in cebu).... I got my bank account with the SRRV card, get senior discounts at most places without the city document, it suffices EVERYWHERE as gummint ID, is one of two ID's needed to get an S&R membership, and costs the least, since i'm ex-Navy (kept the dd214). Exempt from taxes, exempt from exit visas, whatever that crap is. I know there are other advantages, but i'd have to dig too deep in the PRA website. If that's useless, sorry but what the hell is useful, other than having a FIRST cousin on Duterte's staff.

Well, with all due respect to U.S. retired/disabled military personnel who get special SRRV treatment (and a very good deal), I think it is pretty obvious that Silverbullet's aim was the annual renewal fee for the regular SRRV, which at 360 US$ is indeed roughly equivalent to the tourist visum fees.
That doesn't imply that it is by definition a useless option though. I can imagine people with no intention to marry wanting an "easier" option than the regular tourist visum renewals.
For those who marry a Filipino citizen though, the 13a option is probably more attractive than the SRRV.

What is better? SRRV (Ailing or human touch) or a 13a visa? The SRRV (Human Touch) is a quite unknown visa.

It is pretty obvious - for those familiar with the fact SRRV is not one but four similar Visas. A new person reading that blanket statement may then never bother to look at or know exactly what his options are. There is not one Visa that is a bad idea for Everyone, just like there is no Visa that is best for Everyone. Different backgrounds, different current circumstances, and living in different locations with different access to BI offices makes it a personal decision for everyone.

A women (or women) really had nothing to do with why I chose to move/live in the Philippines. Absolutely zero interest in getting married. The SRRV is a nice option for many. Unfortunately the age requirement on military SRRV - 50 - is not good for me (I have 16 more years before I am eligible) and I refuse to put any significant amount of money into a Philippine bank or investment with the other SRRV options. All I could hope for would be a Quota Visa.

I think the annual SRRV fee recently rose from $10 to $360 - so once enough people are hooked into it, what is to stop further increases? The only option then would be to pay or to cancel the SRRV - much has been written here as to how difficult that can be. The Philippine government would like to encourage more retirees here (in fact, Dumaguete is supposed to become one of about 6 centres for the care of very ill retirees) but I don't think the approach is correct - retiring (and bringing your cash with you to benefit the host country) should be made easy as it is now a competitive business with easy retirement in many countries. Also, the recent INCREASE in PhilHealth fees and DECREASE in benefits is touted as a means of encouraging elderly foreign retirees - really???

It would be nice if it also had a Full BI office. (processing ECCs and 10a Visas)

:biglol:The Philippines is one of the last places to consider going to if you are very ill or in chronic pain due to medical issues (unless you have just given up on life and don't care anymore). Thailand is worlds ahead of the Philippines with their medical facilities.
