VISAYAS POWER RESTORATION ADVISORY as of July 17, 2PM

NGCP continues its Visayas restoration efforts for facilities affected by the July 6 earthquake.

As of July 17, 3 out of 6 transformers (two 138/69kV and one 230/138kV transformers) are now energized, with Transformer 4 online at 849AM today. The remaining three 230/138kV transformers are still under observation.

In light of information from test results of Ormoc transformer 6 and additional need for testing and corrective repair, technical experts do not recommend energization on July 19. The new target is set to July 23, still subject to satisfactory test results.

The islands of Leyte, Samar, Bohol, and Biliran will still continue to experience rotating power interruptions, particularly during peak hours, due to Ormoc Substation transformer limitations.

NGCP's Ormoc-Tongonan 138kV line has been ready since July 8 to transmit as much as 112MW from Greencore. Greencore committed to supply 40MW out of its 70MW pre-earthquake capacity by July 19.

Power situation in Cebu, Negros, and Panay will also improve with the synchronization of KSPC after its scheduled maintenance and the increasing generation output of EDC geothermal plants.

All other parallel strategies, particularly the hauling of transformers from Cebu and reconfiguration of 230kV to 138kV lines, are ongoing and ready for implementation, respectively.***

 

Not quite sure what it means but I thought an update might be useful for those that can Understand it.

 

I found it interesting that one of the things NORECO used to recommend in their mandatory seminar is turning off the refrigerator for 8 hours overnight. This was translated for me by my ex who attended the seminar. That seems like false economy to me.

One of the best ways to reduce energy consumption by consumers is for NORECO to buy the most energy efficient air conditioners on the market at wholesale prices and sell/install them for their customers on a lease to own plan. The savings most consumers would have on their electric bill would make the payments. NORECO could make a small profit on the air conditioners and overall electric use would decline as people got rid of those energy sucking, cheap window aircons.

How would they pay for it? Investors could pay the cost of the units and installation and get a fair rate of interest over the time the units are being paid off.

Just a thought as I walk down the street and see all those power sucking air cons stressing the system.

 

to do away with their energy sucking Air-cons and buy energy friendly Pedestal/Ceiling Fans... Been here 3 years and living at sea level (near to the Malatapay Markets) I have absolutely no need for Air-con and wonder why others even 'need' it here (unless they come from Eskimo country)

Why Brian? it is the smallest of the three Regions and closest and Easiest to obtain Emergency and much need power to some Areas, Seems "Damned if they Do and Damned if they don't"
BTW I came across this from somewhere earlier and although I don't know if it is 100% correct or how true it is it may be useful to know where we could all maybe save a little Electric;
