the entire mall is "much ado about nothing" just more of the same so far as I can see. No cinema, nothing new, except greater traffic congestion on National Hwy
Rather small I thought; anyone wanting to follow the local hobby of mall-walking need still to go to Robinson's. I cannot imagine why a Mall would be opened in August and the Food Supermarket in October! I think the Cinema is also to be opened later, as with the BDO bank. It is not as if they did not have any advanced warning. I went there on August 9th and at 9 am (opening time) they were washing the floor and the customers were waiting outside; I could say I expect opening to be on time but 'Mr Dude' will only tell me off! Also, rather shocked by the state of the floor tiling for a new build. Anyway, somewhere more local to visit on a blackout day.
What Dumaguete needs are some different food franchises like, Burger King or Starbucks. Foreigners here are deprived of basic decent food. All we get in this town are the same things over and over. The new City Mall is a joke. How do they expect people coming out of the supermarket (which is yet to open) with a trolly full or carrying bags of shopping in each hand having to climb three sets of stairs to go up to the carpark? All they have provided is one tiny elevator which will end up permanently out of order. What's wrong with having an escalator? This is going to cause more congestion at the street level with supermarket shoppers double parking themselves because it's more convenient than parking on the roof. The stupidity of the design defies belief.
Personally I'd never walk into a Burger King looking for decent food. In fact I'd not even go into a mall looking for that Being a former Starbucks junkie I miss that a bit (the coffee, not so much the food...), but Bos coffee has comparable coffee imho. However I think for a city it's size here in the Philippines Dumaguete has really plenty of decent food, especially there are a lot of unique restaurants that are not the hundredth incarnation of the same old franchise.
Just another store in town adding to the city's traffic problem. Imagine the bottlenecks for traffic now - from St. Paul to PNB crossing. Gosh!!! I hope the development plan of the City Admin pushes through.
Dumaguete has a population of 100 thousand, it's no small city. There is a lack of decent food. Casablanca, sometimes Why Not are the only two that are world class or highest standard comparable to the West. The rest are just run by amateurs and people who have gone into the food business because theres no other businesses that can survive here. There is no reason why Dumaguete cant have the diversity of Cebu or Manila especially considering it has so many foreigners and tourists. .
Yes, traffic problems galore and much more to come. The downtown area has been ruined with one-way streets, lack of parking and shops and stores who forgot to provide parking for their customers.
