Utilities & Mobile Noreco

Just recently 5 out of my 8 (expensive) inverter type split aircons have went down with fried circuit boards, repairman puts it down to the electricity supply fluctuations, surges etc ?
When we contacted Noreco they say we have to pay to get our own transformer ! really ?
Anyone else have similar problems ?

 

Seems to be the only reasonable explanation. I heard before that the native little lizards (tikkeh?) have been blamed for crawling into air-conditioning units and frying themselves and the equipment, but 5 in a short time seems to exclude that possibility.
As for who is responsible for a steady voltage supply, I would say the smallprint in the Noreco-customer contracts (and/or terms of service) decides. No idea what those look like though.
As for experience with power surges, my computer sometimes shuts down automagically and then after a restart complains about powersurges having caused the shutdown.
So yes, seems the powersupply is not very stable in Dumaguete.
If those exist, I would look for replacement of your equipment that comes with protection against power surges like my computer apparently has.

Is it just a 220v to 220v transformer, so it's essentially isolating your inside wiring from the outside wiring?

 

Probably a 69kV to 220 V transformer. Taking power from the distribution line and transforming it to household current.

 

Does it only serve your residence PatO or does it benefit the neighbours also? When I asked workers who came here, I was told I needed to have a Transformer installed to regulate the current, but was told it would be installed inline on the Highway benefiting everyone around it, I figured it was their responsibility and not really my job to improve local conditions, so left it there.

 

We bought a transformer but Noreco wants me to pay for 5 metal post, cost around 50,000 pesos.

 

What type of steel poles Jim?

My wife went to the Hardware here and bought 2x steel poles approximately 2"or 2.5" in diameter and around 5 or 6 meters long - Cost was 1800 pesos for the 2x Poles. She took them to a welding shop here and paid 200 pesos to have re-bar welded to the bottom like spikes to hold it firm in the ground as well as some c shape brackets with porcelain insulators on the top of the poles.

We (IMHO) got stung with the neighbour who charged us 1500 pesos to dig 2x 1 meter deep holes on his property as well as move the Internet cable from his 2x Coconut Trees to the 2x Poles (I was expecting to pay him and his friend a salary of 200 pesos each for 4 hours work, catch was it is HIS property the 2x poles had to go on) and we paid for 2x bags of cement on top at 245 pesos per bag.

These are the same type of poles we plan to put in to run the Electricity wire from the Highway to our Lot at around 100 meters, so expect to put in maybe 6 or so Poles come the time.

 

Geckos are a problem...2 TVs repaired because of them crawling inside. A good friend had a window shaker AC unit shorted out from a Gecko...fortunately we tore it apart and was able to get it back up and running.

When we built our house I was also surprised that we had to get our own transformer...as you would think that would be a responsibility of the local utility company. Nope, and money well spent as we are rocking 240 and no issues that other folks have.

I've posted many replies when it comes to secondary voltages and the issues folks are unfortunately having. I'm more than happy to answer any questions/concerns.
