I don't use facebook a lot but sometimes when I connect I get a message which says "English (UK) is not available, would you like to use English?" FFS!!!!!!!! Isn't UK English THE ENGLISH and what they call English, actually American English, or English for Dummies (who can't spell real English correctly)? Cheeky SOBs. Hmph! Pleased to get that off my chest.
When you become a super power again you can claim your version of English is the real English. Until then....deal with it.
Well there is the "Queen's English" (standard English language as written and spoken by educated people in Britain.) Then there is English that the commoners in England speak. Then there is English spoken by educated people in Canada. And if we continue we can find English spoken in USA, Australia, etc etc and they all speak their own variety of English. I do understand your frustration. In the same manner I find it frustrating that when people refer to the dollar, Americans think we MUST be referring to the US$ as they find it hard to believe there is any other kind of currency with the same name they have claimed
Imagine my surprise the first time I went through the Hong Kong airport. 100+ dollars for a small sandwich and a drink. p*ss off! As for Facebook languages. I prefer to set the language to "Pirate". Everyone should do this as it has you take the site about as serious as you should. Also worth noting that FB is an American website. I don't go to the BBC website and complain that they aren't using American English. I don't think it is even an option to change it to "proper" American English.
England was more of a 'super thief' than a super power - just robbed other nations of goods and people. There was never a 'Great' Britain and never will be - it is only arrogance that keeps the elite thinking it is.
What's the connection between a super power and English, don't understand your convoluted thinking. Anyway, at least we were an Empire not just part of it. when you have an empire intead of an idiot for a President you can claim English to be yours, until then get over yourself.
