I lost count how many times I heard them say the international airport here in Bacong has been given the go ahead. The engineers spent the last 12 months working out which direction the wind usually blows so they can work out the direction of the runway. What they desperately need in Bacong is a Mall and a Hospital and to tidy up the market part, looks in a dreadful state of disrepair, then think about an airport.
New airport construction already started in bacong and it will take 5years to complete. Korean exim bank is the who fund the construction. Cost P7 billion
My limited experience of Bacong is heavy traffic and road flooding plus am I correct to think most users of the airport (other than those living in Dumaguete City) will be coming from the north and so have to transverse the city? Is it the best place to build it? (Too late now! ). Are the 5 years quoted World Years or Filipino Years?
I always hated the airport being in Sibulan. The second you are out of the airport you are in Dumaguete traffic and I always felt that Sibulan was a hot, dirty and miserable cesspool. Absolutely nothing of interest in that town and very little north of it. IMO Sibulan should just f*** off and sink into the sea. It's an eyesore. For tourists I think that Bacong is a much better location for an airport. Saves you the hassle of driving through the disgusting Dumaguete daytime traffic when heading to beach resorts. For me there are shortcuts to Valencia from Bacong as well.
From what I can find, the new Dumaguete airport project has not been approved, the latest I can find is an article in the Business Mirror from November 6 that states the airport is included in a list of 7 infrastructure projects "under consideration" for financing through Kexim. NIA, DPWH need more time to complete 2 infra projects | BusinessMirror
