Plus: " a 10‐km increase in straight‐line distance is associated with around a 1% absolute increase in mortality."
That's an interesting study. It's too bad they didn't use time vs survival rate. 10 Km on a highway in the UK is probably about 5-6 minutes. 10 Km across Dumaguete could be 30 minutes.
Back to topic: which activities are possible in Bayawan? How are the availability and quality of restaurants end eateries? Google maps is not very useful in finding localities. Some are no longer existing like the Chicken Ati-Atihan.
Firstly, I suspect the quality of these hospitals is rather poor. And the evidence is that they are not relied upon in an emergency as I see many ambulances racing towards Dumaguete from places as far away as Guihulngan City - I assume those are emergencies. I am not sure of journey times but I guess a 4 hour emergency trip is quite possible.
I'm wondering if the upcoming ACE hospital in Bayawan will offer better quality and treatment. Quite important if a city want to be expat friendly.
We might hope so - but if a city the size of Dumaguete is struggling to provide decent healthcare, then it makes it unlikely Bayawan will offer more than putting on sticking plasters.
One oddity is that the existing hospital in Bayawan seems to be the only one with a rating on Google Maps of over 4.0 in NegOr. But there are not many ratings on that hospital. Therefore it is still better to be careful. It can be that this is one of the hospitals doing the best with the meager resources they have or it can be that they are just putting good ratings on the net.
I take it Doc that your health is in question? My question would be, given all you write about, is it with you coming to settle, There are many more places in Europe and the US I am sure, where a Good Hospital is further away in time than Bayawan from Dumaguete , that can do more than Plaster stick Just asking
My health is not in a such bad condition that I really need a hospital near of my location. I do just need my medicines. With hospitals are is like as with insurances. Better to have it and are not using it than to have none and are in need to use one. I remember the case where a foreigner have to be brought on a banka from Camiguin to Cebu in an emergency rush due lack of a decent hospital on Camiguin to handle the case. He was reaching the hospital in Cebu but the internal blood loss was already too heavy and he passed away. Back to topic: Which activities are possible in Bayawan?
