I'm guessing they'll decide (eventially) that just extending the Sibulan runway into the sea is the best solution. Maybe they can borrow/lease China's new island building sand dredging ship for a few days. Problem solved.

Or what she thinks she knows. I'm taking bets it will never be finished and the whole thing is speculation to sell land. We can all talk to "higher ups" and get a different story. I know I did.

I'm wondering what will be finished first? This airport or airport Berlin-Brandenburg which is already 10 years behind the schedule. :roflmao::hilarious:

Bacong doesn't really make that much sense. Airports today are moving out of the suburban areas into the countryside so they can control the development around them so that people are not building their homes in future flat paths. However, it would mean that I would not have to spend time in Dumaguete going to my home outside of Basay. I say move it further on south between Zamboanguita and Siaton. Lots of open fields on the high plains between them and two protected deep water bays ripe for tourism development. Let an airport serve both sides of Negros Oriental equally. It would only be about 30-40 kilometers from Dumaguete. Thats only a 20 minute drive on a limited access highway. Double that as it is.

I remember when Denver moved their airport 50 miles out of town on to the plains. Everyone cried big mistake. All kinds of doom and gloom. Now a community complete with its own governance is thriving as fast as planes can land. And that means a modern sewage system and potable water from the faucet. They even have a noise abatement law (hear that lil doggies). All living in perfect harmony.

Same odds as Governor Degamo staying in office despite all the people who want to get him out so they can build their airport.

Find out for yourself if the government is paying to build the Bacong airport or if it is "someone else" building it with the thought that "If we build it they will pay for it". Then you will have a better idea where to place your bet.

The fact that they recently overlaid the runway would tend to indicate that they don't intend to do anything soon. also, they have night flights now, which would also appear to show that they have installed more advanced NAVAIDS.

In any case, from my own experience of the construction of a regional airport here built to international standards, the whole process is long and draw out, more so because of the poor performance of DOTr. In many cases the airports are Japanese funded through JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency). So the first stage is to make a proposal for funding, which takes time. Once obtained they need to find the designer by competitive means, who once appointed must prepare all the design and specs for bidding. Then prequalification of bidders, then bidding, then analysis, discussion, negotiation and acceptance of winning bidder (this is usually very slow due to DOTr input). Then award of contract, followed by about 3 years for construction. Apart from this you have land acquisition, which is usually a problem, if purchased from a variety of owners.
