Hi I have read in Klayoo this information...does this mean, that overtaking is not allowed any more? I cannot believe this. So when is it "overtaking" and when is it "Driving in oncoming traffic?" "Cebu - The new order from Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña says, that all vehicles driving in oncoming traffic will be confiscated for 30 days (see article 25.01.2018) will come into force on Monday. - klajoo.com - The Cebu City Traffic Office (CCTO) boss Francisco Ouano says we will strictly enforce the Executive Order (EO) number 34. However, the fines previously announced by Osmeña are not applied."
I guess they are tying to stop those idiots who want to drive using the other lane when traffic is banked up, mainly bikes.
Please don't call me an idiot. I am just trying to adapt to the culture. On second thought, never mind, there is a mountain of evidence to prove that I may be one.
Looks like the mmda are having a crackdown in manila areas also. This guy gadget addict follows them around making vids, quite amusing to watch.
Truth is, they don't have enough tow trucks or storage space to accommodate all the people driving in the wrong lane so this just cannot happen. They might pick up a couple just to make it look good in the papers but that's as far as it will go. So much easier to just confiscate the driver's license and make him come pay a fine to get it back. Amazing how much better people drive when they are afraid of being caught driving without a license
Cebu - The Cebu City Transportation Office (CCTO) chief Francisco Ouano announced on Monday that until 17:20 clock 61 vehicles were driving in oncoming traffic were confiscated. - klajoo.com - According to Quano, on the first day of the new regulation by Cebu City mayor Tomas Osmeña (see article 05.02.2018) 54 motorcycles, 5 private vehicles, a taxi and a public utility jeepney (PUJ) were confiscated. The drivers of the vehicles received a ticket for reckless driving, which costs a 500 PHP fine according to City Ordinance 801. The confiscated vehicles will be taken into safekeeping for the next 30 days without storage costs. The seized vehicles are now on South Road Properties (SRP), where the city operates a 1.5-hectare seizure facility. My question is: what is "overtaking" and what is "driving in oncoming traffic".
You mean, that if there is a long line on your side, that you take the left line of the oncoming traffic to pass by the blocked line on your side? Sorry here are also Expats from "Not-Speaking-English-Countries". It would be fine, if the English-Speakers would use a simple and clear English-language.
Seen it so many times here. One lane blocked due to too much traffic, so the impatient twats take up the oncoming lane and turn it into a two lane road block so that the other lane cannot flow as it should. Serves the idiots right if they lose their Car/ Bike or whatever. Same goes for those short cutting through One Way roads to get to the other side quicker. Rules are Rules and if you are too stupid to wait your turn then great; suffer the consequences! Now they just need to enforce these Laws and actually start penalising those who break those Laws. I don't eat Popcorn but I would happily grab a Bucket and sit by the side of the road to watch this happen...
Sorry but sometimes the "foreign to me" terms confuse me also and often. I see, "overtaking", "counterflowing", "driving in oncoming traffic", (if you ARE the oncoming traffic you are in the correct lane and going the correct way). I just call it driving on the wrong side. Of course we Americans know some countries do that as a rule. Anyway, I usually figure it out and I think that the other country's terms are interesting. I can't fault anyone as I have a Southern accent that used to be quite thick. When I first moved to New York I took a job in a school bus shop, being just divorced and having been highly relieved of a major amount of money. Sometimes when drivers didn't show up they had us drive a route. I had to go out one day with first graders. I had run this route before and the kids knew me. Three little girls were sitting directly behind me and as I was making a turn one of them asked me a question. I was busy and didn't answer immediately. One of the little girls said, "I don't think he heard you", and one of the other two said, "No, he heard her but you know, he doesn't speak English". True Story. So I can't say much ab0ut the aforementioned terms that I have to think about to figure out. Hope no one feels criticized.
