What are the guide lines for dating a Filipino women who says she is married, but the husband left many year's ago.. My under standing it's illegal to do so. And that the husband of that lady could file charges towards both expat and wife . And each could be locked up 4 to 6 years for adultery . Is the best plan when dating in the Philippines to only date truly women who have never been married.

Chances are the husband is also with someone else. The best way is to look into getting an annulment. Depending on her financial situation she can get representation from the legal section of the Hall of Justice. Might also want to look into getting a legal separation. Just a few alternatives. If she balks at either of these chances are you might want to steer very clear.

Best to move on unless you are head over heals, which means you aren't thinking straight anyways. Lots of effort to get this worked out.

Doesn't matter if the guy is with another person. The rules are different for cheating men.

I believe it is 7 years in prison for the wife and her lover. The husband has to be willing to throw the wife in prison along with her new bf. Which means he will have to actually man up and take care of, and pay for, any kids the marriage produced. Unless the husband is connected or has plenty of money (usually comes hand in hand in the Philippines) the chances of him dropping all that money on legal fees and taking responsibility for any children, are very slim. (It is much cheaper to just have you killed if he has a problem with it.)

Yes, true, and that is why you should be sure she has a "legal separation" wherein the ex specifies he knows and condones her doing as she wishes with other men. It can be arranged by any lawyer who specializes in family law. If the husband is unwilling to go that route then there will likely be a problem and staying far away would be the best advice.

EDIT: Reason is, ONLY the husband can bring adultery charges against "You and Her" so get his permission in writing and you are good to go.

If his intent is to just date, that's works, but if he wants to get married he still has the whole annulment ordeal to go through.

"he: I love you so much, honey
she: yes, darling, but I am still married. it's no problem, please give me just 50.000 for the divorce." ...
just a warning to be careful.

That is likely true, if you are an American, and yet I know an Australian who avoided all that mess by taking the girl to Australia as a de facto (common law) relationship partner. I believe the same thing is possible in Canada as these 2 countries (and others) do not seem to carry about the old fashioned rules of marriage.

Do we know if the one to ask the question is American or some other nationality?
