Located north on Hibbings, 2km+- through Siliman Gate at SW corner of the road to Daro and Spatial condo's (name?), Tarbush has in my opinion the best Muslim/gyro/shwarma style food in town. Antonio, the nice owner came from Lebanon and his family has had resto's all over the middle east, all named Tarbush. It is our once a week favorite. Relatively fast, OK aircon, and cheap. Large menu with many spicey alternatives. The "standar beef" and "soujuk" wraps are to die for! He also sells homemade yogurt, and hummis ingredients.
Muslims definitely have a "style", traditional and taboo foods. As do Jews and Hindus. Christian dietary laws - Wikipedia The bible clearly states what should and should not be eaten: Leviticus 11:1-47 Speak to the people of Israel, saying, These are the living things that you may eat among all the animals that are on the earth. Whatever parts the hoof and is cloven-footed and chews the cud, among the animals, you may eat. Nevertheless, among those that chew the cud or part the hoof, you shall not eat these: The camel, because it chews the cud but does not part the hoof, is unclean to you. And the rock badger, because it chews the cud but does not part the hoof, is unclean to you. Leviticus 11:9-12 “These you may eat, of all that are in the waters. Everything in the waters that has fins and scales, whether in the seas or in the rivers, you may eat. But anything in the seas or the rivers that has not fins and scales, of the swarming creatures in the waters and of the living creatures that are in the waters, is detestable to you. You shall regard them as detestable; you shall not eat any of their flesh, and you shall detest their carcasses. Everything in the waters that has not fins and scales is detestable to you. Leviticus 11:7 And the pig, because it parts the hoof and is cloven-footed but does not chew the cud, is unclean to you. Deuteronomy 14:1-29 You shall not eat any abomination. These are the animals you may eat: the ox, the sheep, the goat, the deer, the gazelle, the roebuck, the wild goat, the ibex, the antelope, and the mountain sheep. Leviticus 19:19 “You shall not let your cattle breed with a different kind. You shall not sow your field with two kinds of seed, nor shall you wear a garment of cloth made of two kinds of material. (God is clearly talking about GMOs and crop rotations here.) Of course, like most things in the Bible, there are many contradictions to this. It's no wonder Christians are so d*mn confused about what they should and shouldn't eat, their god can't make up his mind. I guess that's why most of them completely brush aside the first half of the bible (which they stole from the Jews). A lot of nasty sh*t in that part.
I thought that was just the actual rules on what is permissible and how certain animals have to be killed (brutally and inhumanely), not the actual style/recipes. KFC can be halal, doesn't have much affect on the taste.
Quite agree, it is more important that the strict preparation is observed both in content and Cooking that matters the taste as you may imagine is the same
